Route and stop suggestions

Hi there we are leaving the Vista CA area on April 13th and traveling to Hurricane UT getting there on April 29th, so we have 16 travel days. I am looking for the best route suggestions and stop locations for either one or two night stopovers, maybe a couple more days in the Grand Canyon area. We would like to avoid the Las Vegas area as much as possible. Any input from those who have traveled before us will be very much appreciate.

We have travelled quite a bit through most of the U.S. and Canada. What part of Utah are you going to? The Grand Canyon is certainly worth a peek, and there are a lot of other places to see.

One thing you need to consider is weather. We were in Utah in the summer and fall, so I don’t know what the snow situation is in the latter part of April. A few suggestions of places to see are Sedona, AZ, Page, AZ (specifically the Upper and Lower Antelope Canyons), Zion NP, to name a few.

As for places to stay, Cedar City Utah KOA is very nice. We stayed in Grand Canyon Camper Village. It was okay.

We are going to be coming across 40 from California and looking to hit 64 towards the Grand Canyon and then work our way around to hook up with 89 ultimately heading to Hurricane UT. Are there an concerns with either 64 or 89 in regards to navigating a 42' fifth wheel such as sharp turns or narrow passes or anything else that might scare the heck of us? Any other suggestions? Like I said in my earlier post, we are avoiding the Las Vegas area. Thanks

We have been on all those roads and found no problems at at all.

It looks like your route takes you right through Page. Definitely do not miss Antelope Canyon. Also nearby Page is Horseshoe Bend, an iconic view of a bend in the. Colorado River.

Again, weather could be an issue. If it rains, there could be wash outs.

If you plan on going through Page, there is a good sized campground at the Wahweap Marina Campground. Loop C has long pull thru sites that overlook Lake Powell. From Page you can take 389 out of Kanab to Hurricane or take 89 north to rt 9 ,Mt. Carmel tunnel. This will take you through Zion Nat. Park and over to Hurricane, but 2 tunnels to go through and some sharp turns. Others here have gone through the tunnel with their 5er, but a permit is required in advance. I have only gone through in a smaller vehicle.

Have a great time! Much to see and do in Hurricane if you have not been there before
