Power Booster Question
My 2006 Mountaineer 319BHS has 50 amp power requirements. I have run it off 30 amp and 20 amp service when visiting certain RV parks that don't offer 50 amp service without any issues just as long as I don't need my A/C running with other items. I'm looking to purchase a Power Booster/Surge Protector, and my question is if I purchase a 50 amp unit (ie. Hughes Autoformer for 50 amp service), can I use it with the 50A to 30A plug adapters on a 30A power pole? Or if I plug in to a 20A circuit, can I use adapters and still be protected with the 50A Power Booster/Surge Protector unit?

Absolutely, with either 20-, 30-, or 50-amp.

Also check out this website. I recently bought and installed this one:
http://www.rvperformanceproducts.com/
Good for 15amp to 50amp with 3750 joules of surge protection. All voltage boosters are good for all park 120volts up to rated amperage.

When we had our 04 2955RL it was a 30 AMP rig. I bought a 30 AMP Hughes Autoformer.
When we purchased our 07 3485SA it was 50 AMP. I immediately had the 50 AMP Hughes Autoformer hard wired into the rig.
Although I have never had a problem I do know Hughes backs their Autoformers 100%. This cannot be said for some of the other manufacturers. AS I have never heard of the PowerMaster that hookman purchased I cannot comment one way or the other.
For me and a number of others the Hughes Autoformer is the only voltage controller we would buy.
BTW-I would also recommend the 120V Volt Meter

Glenn said it right, "...I do know Hughes backs their Autoformers 100%. This cannot be said for some of the other manufacturers."
I've mentioned this before that another manufacturer of autoformers (who I will reveal if you want it) did not stand behind the warranty on both my 30- and 50-amp autoformers. Hughes does!

Thanks Orv
I have talked to Powermaster and their distributor and of course they talk highly of their product. The distributor used to Hughes but went to Powermaster because of quality problems. Hughes was recently bought out and at present they don't even have anyone answering the phone, all voicemail. They did honor the warranty on mine though. I guess time will tell with them.

Before I bought mine I also checked other RV sites and phoned Todd. He is very knowledgeable about power boosters and I felt his answers to my questions where honest so I decided to give there product a try and so far I am happy with it. I am going to pick up a plug in volt meter from Camping World the next time I am there as Glenn suggested.

I was talking to Todd at RV Performance about adding a surge protector to PowerMaster Voltage Controller and he stated that one is not required as the controller has it's own resettable surge protection. He is presently in Goshen at a couple of other SOB rallies
