Brand New owners!

Hidee ho Montana family! My husband and I just purchased our first 5th wheel (383th) that we named the "She Shed" 😆 We had it delivered this weekend and are now in the search for alll things needed (Sups fun) from hitches, airbags, tripods and the first important thing I believe..a security lock. Looking forward to all the seasoned Montana owners guidance on this forum and am super excited about the next phase of our adventure! 🎉

Welcome aboard! And congrats on the new "She Shed". Top of the list of things you'll need is a tow vehicle properly rated for the size of that rig. With a GVWR of about 17k lbs and a loaded hitch weight of nearly 4k lbs you'll be into a dually. Do you already have the truck?

Welcome! Have fun outfitting that new Montana. We named our previous travel trailer, "The Love Shack". The current Montana is now named, "Love Shack 2".

I'll give you 1 guess why we named it that!

Yes,we have a Chevy 2500HD diesel Z71 crew with the tow/ braking system etc..we'll be putting air bags on the back when we get the hitch installed..it's a 20k hitch..it was delivered to the property that it will stay at the majority of the time, so who knows when we may actually tow it somewhere, but we have time to get our set up right..I am so excited to have it though!

That's so funny because our Hideout was named the love shake, lol!! My husband already has a hunting camper on our other property that he enjoys for quick weekends etc, but now that the High Country is sitting there, he just shook his head and said "look at the difference in my man cave and your "She shed".

Lori, take note of the size of the tow vehicles posted under each of the responders postings. I will probably catch h-ll for this but I frankly don't think you have enough truck there to tow your new Monte. Consider the total weight of the unit plus approximately 2300-3000# more for add ins and your 2500 is over weighted. OK, I'm ready for the backlash-- bring it on!

I think Rondo is right. The 2500 is under capacity in both tow rating and payload. Sadly, the truck is nearly new. But it's good to be aware that adding air bags does not increase payload. Aside from the safety issue, which should be a serious consideration, there's also the legal issue if there is an accident. Some jurisdictions will also spot check the weights as well and may not allow you to proceed. Worth thinking about.

Thanks for the vehicle tow advice but we have a family member with the exact same truck set up pulling a Raptor toy hauler that is heavier without issue. For reference, he already hauls a 10,000+lb tractor on a 3,000+ trailer and it pulls like nothing's back there, so let's not sell that Duramax and Allison short. I don't know that we will tow it often or when, but I do know that once my husband gets all the required items installed, if he still doesn't like the way it feels, he won't hesitate to upgrade..(what man would! *♀️)
