Timbrens vs Air Bags

Our new Dodge Ram 2500 rides a lot better then our old F250. The Dodge also squats a little farther then the ford when you hook up the fifth wheel. I am debating rather to add the timbrens or air bags. I have seen some good dialog on this subject in the past, on this forum, but a search on both did not give me enough info to make a decision. Any input from those who have used one or the other, or both, would be greatly appreciated.
Jim C.

I have been using the timbrens for over a year on my 250 after purchasing our 3000RK. They work very well for us. Never had air bags so can't compare, but am very satisfied with the timbrens. Very easy to install too.

Hi, I've used Timbrens in my truck for 3 years and find they work very well, the only time you know they are there when unloaded, is when you hit a dip or speedbump hard, you will feel a firm bump as the spring hits them hard.

Had both timbrens and air bags. On rough roads I didn't like the way they bottomed out. I carry a tool box with 2 honda generators and it seemed they always hit the bumper. I removed them and installed air bags. It made a big difference in the ride. Empty I set the air to 10 pounds and I felt I was riding on a cloud.

X2 on the airbags. Feel they also act as anti-sway when aired up and the Montana attached.

Airbags. Towed one time with the new RV at 14,600 lb and I knew I wasn't over weight but I didn't like the feeling of the suspension. Installed airbags and there is no comparsion between airbags and reg. suspension.
Go with the air bags.. I keep 8-10 unloaded and 30 lbs loaded.

Never had Timbrens but heard enough stories like above so I went with the Firestone Ride Rite air bags. I love them. They take out the squat with the Monty attached and when not towing I drop the air pressure to 5 psi for a fairly smooth ride.

Air bags for me, gives me versitality in different types of loads whether I have Monty attached or hauling something else. It does smooth out some ride problems.

I've had timbrens for about 5 years now and would suggest them. No maintenace, no adjusting, no chance of broken air lines are blown bags. And it does ride much better than the stock suspension.

I agree with RKassl and Craig A, no moving parts to break or leak or air lines to pinch or break. Yes occasionally they give a jolt but I have never had a problem with them and once the rig is off the truck I don't have to bleed off any air. I love my Timbrens... Dave

Have had Timbrens on 06 Dodge 2500 for 2 years. Except for a jolt hitting hard bumps empty, as mentioned above, they work great. No fuss, no maint, no adjusting, lower costs, bolt them on in place of stops and forget. Have not had experience with air bags.

Recently did airbags. Kicking myself for not doing it sooner. Big difference in the ride.

I put Timbrens on my last truck F350 worked fine with no maintenance, easy to install yourself and inexpensive.

Thanks to all for relaying your experiences. Not sure which way to go at this time but at least I got your input. I really like the simplicity of the timbrens.

Fyi, Ozz had a post on the installation of the timberns. I had checked out the air bags and decided to go with the timberns. Check out his post, it was helpful to me. BTW, I have been happy with the performance.

Ken, I looked at Ozz's post as well as his pictures. Lot of good information. Thanks,
