Extended Warranty

General discussion We cashed out our 3485SA Montana this afternoon. The salesman ask if we wanted the extended warranty at the cost of $1495.00 for seven years. the name of the company is Phonenix American, we have 30 days from purchase to make up our minds. My question is an extended warranty good to have? and do any of you have a policy from this company and do they stand good for repairs? We trust that your opinions are seasoned and would be very helpful. Thanks Randye

We should pick up our 2955 next week. We have been offered an extended warranty for $1900 and if we don't have to use it at the end of 7yrs we get the money back. On our last trailer we didn't use it but it did not have the money back deal. Remember you only need a fridge to fail and you will out a lot of money. Enjoy your new 5th

First, you have a year in which to make up your mind. Second, some people don't like extended warranties. In our case, our extended warranty paid for itself twice over: new refrigerator, broken slide hydraulic line, furnace repaired (2X), and other miscellaneous items.

I bought my unit where Hookman bought his and took the warranty he is talking about. A Fiver has so many appliances and we got our Splendide washer dryer included in the warranty because we had it installed before we picked up the unit.

Have you ever got a notice from Dometic what they want for just the fridge warranty !!!!!!! very expensive.
The computer circuit board on some RV fridges can set you back 1000 bucks. I like the blanket warranty I have.

I added it on my 3400 for 1200 dollars for seven years, covers every thing including my washer dryer combo,no deductable at the selling dealer, 50 dollars on the road.I have already had a card put in my fridge,on my third 1/2 time oven. That,in the first six weeks.

We have a extended warranty. We paid less for 7 years than the above post. I think you can get a better price buying direct rather than through a dealer.Yes the entire camper Is bumper to bumper warrantied for 1 year and there are vendor Warranties on many of the appliances for up to 3 years after that you are on your own and there are many large dollar items that can go bad. To me it is no different than having insurance on the truck and camper.

Rich, Tell me about your warranty. What company, when do you need to get....can you get at the end of the first year. Would it be more costly if the unit is more expensive, etc. Thanks, Karen

We have www.warrantyexperts.com which is actually administered by Rv shield. It is important to know what the finanical backing of these extenfded warranties are... http://www.fortworth.bbb.org/codbrep...6060022&cons=y

Also click on WWW. Warrentech.com

Can't tell you what the price is now..we got ours after we had the 3400 for nearly 7 months and it was under 1200.00.

For all the reasons stated by the previous posters we included the 7 year warranty in our purchase. I believe it was around $1200 and worth every penny.
With labor prices these days and the price of parts and the fact that it is a mechanical vehicle and prone to wear and tear, and the fact that they will come to you, I felt it would be prudent to get the extended warranty. No Regrets here!

To All that replied to this question on warrenties,Thanks a million I,ll take it under advisement. We slept in our 5th last night. I didn't have time to level it and used the fresh water tank and pump. I slept like a baby, however my wife was a little worried that it would not be roomy enough for me, I reminded her I had lived in an 18 foot prowler trailer for 18 years,it was a 1972 and very rustic. This 2007 is a huge step up and as soon as we get it set up better and all amenities in, I have no doubt I will love it. Thanks again for all your help.

When considering an extended warranty on the Montana...never get them on a regular vehicle...I asked myself..."for the next seven years, will every appliance and everything in this trailer work correctly." My answer was a resonding "NO" and got the warranty.

CAT320's rational is a good one.One major appliance failure after the vendors warranty is up will pay for the extended warranty and the probability of a failure in ANY camper is high..

I agree that the warranty is a good deal for most users.
Only one appliance failure or Air conditioner, etc will wipe out the cost of the warranty.
I bought mine through my dealer, Sherrard in Colbert, Oklahoma, and it I bring it back to them for repair they will forgive the deductible.
It's light buying insurance or the truck or a road hazard agreement for the truck or trailer.

I like the pressure of you have to buy it now or in thirty days. The fact is the warranty will not go into effect until the one or two year trailer warranty expires. Find a company that lets you purchase just before your factory warranty expires. I did not purchase a warranty.I averaged the amount of all the warranty companies wanted and I put the money in a high interest account at my credit union, that was three years ago. I am now way ahead of the warranty game. I have yet to need any warranty work. I try to keep my rig in good working order by following a maintance program that I set up myself.

I went with Warranty Experts (see Richfaa), but only went with the five year warranty. We FT in this and I cannot see us living in this Montana for a total of 6 years without upgrading (this one is paid off).

These guys also give back all your money if you have no claims over the duration. Nice guarantee, but I'm not believing for that in the end and I didn't buy it for that reason.
