Hydraulic hose leak

Has anyone had experience replacing the hydraulic hose that powers the sliders? My 06 2955rl has a leak in the bedroom slider hose. It appears to be up in the conduit, causing hyd. fluid to drip down near the electric pump.

I have a 2006 2980 and had a similar leak in BR slide area. I think my fluid tank went down about 1/2 to 3/4 inch. I was monitoring it and after a few weeks it stopped leaking!!! Maybe you will be as lucky. Oh, that was several years ago too!

Had a major leak on the hoses for the big slide. The hoses they use are bare minimum for the application. Mine were replaced with proper high pressure hoses. I will change out the small slide ones soon.

Thanks, my leak is substantial with about 1/3 of the tank leaked into the compartment. Hookman, did you replace the hose yourself? Where did you find the proper high pressure hose? I didn't want to pull the old hose out until I had the new one, using the old hose to pull the new one through.

The bedroom hoses are the easiest to replace. You can get a hose made at about any tractor supply store, implement dealer, or even a heavy truck overhaul facility. NAPA makes them out here in the Midwest as well. The ends are JIC (flare fittings) and require no sealant ... just tighten the nut on the end of the hose onto the fittting on your pump manifold or cylinder.

I would take the hose off and take it to a place that makes hose. I had the RV dealer and the warranty paid the labor and I paid for thr hoses.

Lift up your bed and you should see the hoses. They are easy to replace but don't over tighten them. I replaced mine with 3000 psi. Eventually all slide hoses have been replaced by a trailer repair facility.

We had a bulge in the orange (extend) hose from the pump to the manifold, which we caught before it leaked. Took the hose to an auto parts store that also caters to the AG community, and for about $25 had a new 6,000 psi hose made, and it works perfect. The tech at the store said they don't use the flimsy 3,000 psi hose like I brought in, and they don't have the fittings available either. At least it won't fail due to pressure

The lines are not of the highest quality. We had replaced 3 hoses over the years in our 06 3400.

About a year ago, Rats chewed holes in two of the Hyd lines going to the front room and entertainment slides. I remembered using compression fittings on the drill rigs I ran over the 30 yrs. I put one on in the mid eighties and forgot about it when I left that company in 2004 the compression fitting was still holding no leak. So that being said I went to a Hyd store and bought two compression fittings 1/4 " in size and one year later no leaks what so ever. Just saying. !! ?

randye ... are you talking about a two piece hydraulic fitting that you slide an outer barrel on the hose first ... cram the inner part of the fitting with a flair end inside the hose ... then pull the outer barrel up and screw it onto the inner part? I carry a couple with me just in case ... they're good for around 3000 psi.

Thanks everyone for so much good information. The sun is coming out today, no more excuses, I'll have to get out there and make the repair.

FYI, oem hoses on my 08 were about 1700 psi, now that was flimsy. Hose shop recommended the 3000.

I made the repair. There are two hoses that go from the 12v hyd. pump to the to the ram under the bed. Montana's OEM hoses look really flimsy. I had the 1/4" hoses made up with 5,800 psi hose. Mark the hoses as one is for pushing the ram out and the other in. Montana's manual says to use type A automatic transmission oil. No one around here knew what that was, Napa recommended using RO hyd. fluid. Push the hoses down through the conduit and attach to the pump. Before connecting the hoses to the ram pump some hyd. fluid the the hoses into a container near the ram, forcing the air out of the line. I sure hope the living room slide hoses don't fail as well. Two new hoses $67 & 1 gallon hyd. fluid $15.

Although you probably have enough hyd fluid left to last you the rest of your ownership, if there is a next time just buy the cheapest Dextron II or III or Mercon 5 tranny fluid you can find at Wally World or similar. It's what most all of us use as well as Lippert's recommendation. I called and asked once.
