I will open my slides when I stop for lunch or overnight and I don’t put the jacks down. I don’t expect my camper to be as stable as my house. I’ve never had any trouble and don’t see why you would.

Guess I have been doing it wrong for about 15 years. Have opened them hundreds of times while attached to truck and haven't twisted or tweaked anything. I always try to be pretty close to level when opening the slides rather if I'm hooked up or not.

I have opened the slides while hooked to the truck with three different Fifth-wheels. No problems. If your slides bind while being hooked up than your frame is broken or not designed correctly. Yes I also in manual mode level out the Montana (with in reason) for short time (lunch etc) or overnight. I have never been to an RV dealership or RV Show either where all the units were all leveled up on all the jacks and yes every one had all the slides open. Have a safe trip and enjoy your RV.
Happy and safe roads to you.

The last three posters have opened their slides hundreds of times without a problem. Does anyone know of anyone who has had a problem because they opened their slides while hooked to their truck that was caused be being hooked to their truck? I can see how someone could have a problem if there camper was way out of level but they would have a problem if it wasn’t hooked to their truck.

If you are headed to Gulf Shores you need to check out Gulf State Park. It is our favorite RV park of any we have found. Almost 500 full hook up sites, reasonable rates with two miles of white beaches, 24 hour security and some of the best seafood dining within a short drive from the park.

At first we would make sure we were pretty level, stay hooked up, and just touch the jacks.

But after thinking about it a bit I decided it shouldn't matter as long as you're fairly level. Been doing it that way ever since. No issues whatsoever.

Thanks to all who posted & gave me good advice. Just returned from Gulf Shores for a couple weeks and all worked well with just manual leveling until one morning on our trip home there was no display on the Lippert Level up keypad. We were able to still raise & lower front jacks but not the rear, left or right. I will start a new thread on that later if I cant find some help doing a search. Best to all, Bill
