Quartzite, AZ

Wow! We took the long way around to Las Vegas and of course went through Quartzite, AZ on I-10. Campground, after campground, after campground, and none of them very small.

What goes on their that warrants so many campgrounds?

Wayne, you never heard of Q? The real draw is free camping in the desert.

There is a huge RV show and flea market in January where a bunch of MOC members get together. Check out the posts on this subject.

I have heard of "Q," but never associated it with that much camping. I did some research and found out that the population of "Q" is around 1900 people, except in January and February, when it reaches and may exceed one million people. Also, don't want to go there June, July, August or September as the temperatures are over 100 degrees.

I will not be able to make it this year. My son (civilian) is coming home from Iraq in January. DW will definitely not be on-the-road.

Thanks.

Been there done that...Biggest flea market we ever saw also the highest prices we ever saw at a flea market. Miles of desert, miles of Rv's..boon docking if that is your thing. Q is something everyone should do at least once for the experience. We did it..that is it. We wound up at a local campground after boon docking..full hookups, shower..much better.

Wayne,

Sorry you can't make the MOC gathering at Quartzite - maybe next year.

It's a wonderful gathering of MOC members and the boondocking is a lot of fun once in a while.

Boondocking?
Oh, yes, that is when I pull in with the generator running at 50 amps, on diesel fuel. Stop the coach. Push the button for the automatic levelers, put out the slides, and sit back and watch televisions. Yes, I think I know what boondocking is. Oh! I remember! I did it for a day and a half when Ike took out the power. Piece of cake.

Maybe one of these years.

Wayne...you got it... he only thing we did not have out there in the middle of the desert was a sewer hookup but to us that is a hardship(long showers). However the gathering is a sight to behold. Don't miss it...at least once.

Rich, there's even a "honey wagon" that will dump your tanks for you. You can have fresh water brought to your site, as well. Life is hard in Q'site!

Do they haul the water out in the same tank that they use for the dumper?

They probably just filter out the big chunks, but can't really say. We are pretty frugal, and have boondocked for 10 days with no problems. There is a laundry in town that has public showers. They are the cleanest I have ever seen, so we shower there.

Everyone needs to experience Quartzsite, as Rich mentioned. Coming out of Blythe in January, from the top of the hill, it's RVs as far as you can see in any direction.

Rich,
All I need is some sand and a rock. The rock is to beat the finger against. You probably know the rest.
