My '07 6.0 had 78,000 on it when I traded it. Around 17,000 towing. Had a cam sensor go bad and replaced under warranty. Otherwise no problems.

We had a 2005 King Ranch with the 6.0 Diesel. Never had any issues with the truck until one day on a trip with our 2005, 3400RL in July 2012. Going up a major mountain in N. Ala. it decided to crater with some 200K miles. Could have been fixed, but we just decided to by new. The 6.0 was a good truck got decent MPG at 10 - 11 on the road. The 6.7L is a beast, gets around 14 MPG pulling the same rig at 65-70 MPH. I just am still having trouble getting use to the lack of the diesel rattle and smell. I actually loved it, and after two years still miss it.

Lynwood my question to you is did you also bullet proof your engine?? The reason I ask is I am trying to find some people who have bulletproofed there engines and have enough miles on it to say yes it works. Seems most times an engine is bulletproofed and then sold shortly thereafter.

The 2005 6.0L frayed a wiring harness shutting it down (while towing the Montana on the freeway) at 4,100 miles. At 18K the turbo failed. Then there was an EGR problem at 21K. Lastly it melted two pistons while towing 700 miles from home. Ford replaced the 2005 6.0L with a brand new 2008 6.4L. That one had two radiators replaced (a common issue) before I traded it at 36K miles for my current 6.7L. The 6.7L has been flawless through 39K miles.

I don't know what you mean by bulletproof but I did try to remove all of the problem areas. First to go was the DPF. It was dumping fuel in the oil, 13%. Then the EGR was removed. It's not if the go bad it only when. I saw a 6.4 at my dealer that the EGR went bad took 4 days to drain the oil. Then I put a transmission oil pan on that holds an extra 8 quarts. Then last I replaced the fuel filter with a much better one. It removes smaller impurities and more water to protect the HPFP. Bulletproof ? I hope!! I can tell you for sure with 600+ HP it WILL PULL. When I leave home I go up a mountain it is long straight and steep. Stock it was 50 MPH and 3000 RPM now it's 2000 at 55 MPH with less than 1/3 pedal. Diesel trucks are like canoes. There is no such thing as a canoe that is too light or truck that has too much power.
