Something not mentioned is fuel tank capacity. Because of the DEF tank location on some trucks the normal 36 gal tank is now 28 or so. So with a short bed truck, the ability to add a in bed tool box or aux fuel tank might become a issue.

GM has a "long bed" (8') a "standard bed" (6.5') and a "short bed" (~6'?). Don't think all lengths are available on all weight classes, but my GMC 3500HD "standard bed" has a 40 gal tank and a 5.3 gal DEF tank.

I've towed with both, love the dually. It does feel more stable. The considerations above are true, parking in the next zip code at the store, the tightness at the ATM, but to me, it's all worthwhile. I have a second vehicle which I use for commuting to work, so mine isn't a daily driver. If it was, I'm sure I would have considered staying with the SRW. I bought the truck long before I needed it. I knew I would eventually get into a 5th wheel, and didn't want my choices to be restricted by my truck. Turns out, I probably could have pulled my Montana with my '04, but it wouldn't have been as pleasant. Plus, I personally love the looks of a dually coming down the road.

YES! I love that, 'til it's time to buy tires, that is.

Thanks again for all the input. I went with 2012 Silverado hd 3500 cc with SRW long bed. Now the plot thickens, I switched from a 2500 short bed so I had a pullrite super slide which seems unneccesary now but I already own it. Any down side in using it in a long box? Thanks again,Steve

Just that it is way more heavy than is necessary. It is nice to have a simple, lightweight hitch that can be easily removed (relatively) if you need the bed for loads. I have a Reese 16K hitch that I can pull in a short amount of time by myself...

Hi Steve,
I have the almost the same truck. Mine is the extended cab, long bed. I cannot see any reason you will need the pullrite super slide. It is a very nice hitch, but maybe you could sell it and pickup another one that is less weight and takes up less room in your bed.
I replaced my Reese 15k with the TrailerSaver BD3 and I was amazed how much more room I have in the bed of my truck. I also cannot wait till April to see how much improvement in ride that I get.
Jay

Thanks Jay. That's the kind of info I'm looking for. It's a great hitch but seemed like overkill. Also I pulled the firestone air bags off the old truck. Are they worth reinstalling on the 3500? May need to change/alter the brks. Steve

Steve,
I don't have airbags on mine. It doesn't appear to need them. When I hitch up the truck just goes down to the overloads springs but doesn't touch them when static. When traveling they do come in play but the ride is fine with very little bounce.
Jay
