Typical dealer. All dealers want as you say is a sale. The salesman have probably never pulled a rv. The 3/4 ton trucks are to light for these newer rv's. The 1 tons especially the duals will safely pull any Montana on the market. By the way, WELCOME to the forum.

Does the fresh water offset part of the pin weight?
Since the fresh water tank is at the rear of the Montana the water weight should offset some of the pin weight - think of the axles as a fulcrum. Don't throw everything you might use into your trailer - just what you will need until you get it weighed. Most designs force us to put our gear in the front compartments where they add to the pin weight. Make certain you keep your tires fully inflated to the cold pressure listed on the tire. Look for lighter weight accessories, etc.
Has anyone heard of an RVer having an accident because of an overloaded trailer or a truck breakdown caused by an overload? Just asking'...

Don't throw everything you might use into your trailer - just take what you will need until you get it weighed. Items in the bed of your truck, including fuel tanks, must be added to the equation. Most designs force us to put our gear in the front compartments where they add to the pin weight. Look for lighter weight accessories, etc.

I'd bet G-rated tires might be marginal for many full-times. I heard Keystone is considering H-rated tires for the larger Montanas because many users tend to overload the trailer.
Just asking'...

It's not whether or not you can tow it, its CAN YOU STOP IT? It's what do you do when you have a blow out, down hill, on a curve, in the rain? A 2500 can surely tow it... it's the times you can't imagine that are more important. A dually is just more stable a platform to tow with. If a dealer says you can tow a trailer with a straight face that exceeds what you should already know, before you set foot on their lot, about your truck's limits, your next move is to turn around and leave.

To get a rough idea of what weights will be use GVWR for the weight and 20% of the GVWR for pin weight.

Not quite off topic: Regarding CAT Scale procedure: 1. Weigh truck alone. 2. Get trailer, weigh truck & trailer together. 3. Pull truck off edge of scale, weigh trailer hooked up to truck. 4. Drop trailer, weigh trailer alone.
Will this procedure give me all the numbers I need (after some minor addition/ subtraction) ?

I weighed truck and camper together. Go in and pay. Tell them I need to weigh truck.
disconnect weigh truck
pay again
get 2 weight slips then do the math.
First time Costs $11
Second is $3.

Now that we are set up I generally roll across scales at about 13700 lbs trailer only with 3190 on the hitch.
We are upgrading and I am curious if anyone has weighed a 2019 Montana 3120RL. It states 12050lbs trailer weight as equipped with 2350 on the hitch. I just don’t want to be surprised to badly.
Anyhow, just curious If the Montana weights are more accurate than the Mountaineers were.
Thanks

So are you referring to a brochure advertised weight or the actual sticker that is on the camper itself. The numbers on the sticker should be correct..just like the sticker on the inside of your truck door should be accurate for your specific truck.

This is the correct procedure to follow to get all the correct info.

Something that some people miss when "guessing" at pin weights is whether they have a generator or not. If you have an Onan/Cummins generator in the front compartment of a newer Montana, you are close to the max pin weight of most 250/2500 trucks. Weigh the truck and trailer properly as described above.

I used the weights posted on the RV, but I can’t remeber if the pin weight was posted there. I don’t think it was. I will have to check the new one. I couldn’t find the pin weight on any of the stickers in it.

You really do need to weigh it once you have loaded. Any published pin weights are for an unloaded vehicle weight. Hit the scales and do a little math and you will see.

You can see my rig so here are my CAT scale numbers:
Truck alone (full tank)_ front axle 5020. Rear axle 3600
Hitched (full fresh H2O). ". ". Rear axle 6280
Trailer axels 12540
Gross Wt. 23840
Hitched I had some 250 lbs of extra water and diesel in cans. I guess I can't do that as a normal practice. Have airbags, if that matters.Any comments?

The vehicle manufacturer MUST provide a published tongue/hitch weight. For them, their recommended hitch weight MUST be used when they certify the trailer as it leaves the factory. This is the math test they MUST pass: When the trailers total vehicle certified GAWR weight (s) of all axles are added to the recommended hitch/tongue weight for that trailer, the sum must not be LESS than the trailers certified GVWR.
Ref: 49 CFR 571.110 or 571.120.
I've personally done the math on numerous Keystone trailers at RV shows. The recommended hitch weights they provide will work in a perfect weight and balance situation.
The only time the trailer manufacturers hitch weight is valid is at the time of vehicle certification. Once you own the trailer the hitch weights are 100 % your responsibility.

your GVW with your Monty hooked up and your load means your truck weighs in at about 11,300 pounds. You truck is most likely rated for 10,000 pounds.
your pin weight is 3680. That would put you at or over on most Ford F350 SRWs.
By having a full water tank it helps your GVW and pin weight.
If it were me, I would get a dually. Which is what I did.
