Don't think the OP was comparing the two. It was a matter of sales position. Because of the price and towability I would not be surprised if Couger passed Montana in sales. The Couger is clearly not a Montana.

My tall brother just traded in his 2007 Montana for a new Cougar and, after the fact, discovered that he can no longer sit up and read in bed because his head hits the lowered ceiling over the pillow area. He will never admit it, but I can tell he wishes that he hadn't been so quick to trade in his old rig, not just because of the bed situation, but because the Monty had a "more solid feel," in his words.

We have a friend with a new Cougar High Country and while it is nice it is plain jane inside compared to Montana, fewer features, fewer cabinets. The worst thing about it is the steps going up to bath and bed. There are only two steps 13" high. That may not sound like much but believe me that is one mighty tall step. I would imagine one reason for the Cougar popularity is price. Montana has been adding more and more nice features and the price has gotten higher and higher

CW in NH sells both Montanas and Cougers. Lots of Cougers and very few Montanas were on the lot. They said they sell more Cougers due to the lower price point and therefore have more available to sell.

Just a couple of words, High Profile. You like standing upright in your travel trailer, you like wrestling around on the bed, high profile thats my style.

No doubt the bad economy has had an influence on the sales of the higher priced units but I had to look at the long haul and wanted a heavier unit. I don't know if it makes a difference or not but I figure the heavier built Montana will last me a lot longer than the lighter built units.

If we were weekenders or low rv users we would not spend the $$ on a Montana. That is to much money to have sit around. The Couger is a very nice unit in its price range. We did not purchase a Montana till we both were retired and knew we would be on the road and living in the camper a lot.

Rich I agree with you totally and even though Denny and I are classified as weekenders or low rv user's we didn't start out with the high priced Montana. Started out tent camping! Lol!!! Then pop-ups, a highbred, travel trailer and then we found a 2006 3295 Montana that a individual was selling. We got the Monty for the same price back then as a new light weight unit would have cost the only negitive was the floor plan. We really wanted a RL but the price was right so we snatched it up. The unit had only been used for 6 months when the owners decided to sell. Got the 2011 Monty last year. We decided to go for the new one since our retirement date is coming up in a few short years and we got spoiled with the 2006 Monty. Had we 10, 15 or longer years before retirement I would have considered lower priced units as well.

We traded up to the Montana from a Cougar. It was a large improvement in quality in my opinion. The Cougar was very nice but lighter built and not the same quality cabinets, fittings and furnishings. We liked it a lot but like the Montana more.

We also had a 2011 Cougar 327 and loved it, but the DW and of course myself want more fridge space, More counter top space, cabinet storage, and overall a little more room. The price is more than reasonable for what you get in my opinion Ron

Our dealer told us that this year they have sold many more Couger's than Montana's and says its a combination price and size issue.
Here in BC you need at least a 1 ton to tow any Montana legally and many can't or wont trade for a bigger truck.
This dealership sells many other makes of 5th wheels but for them the Cougar is by far #1.
