IMHO - "E" rated tires would be and ARE gone from mine. When I switched to G (Sailun) rated, one G tire weight as much as two E tires. The sidewalls on the G are STIFF. As mentioned above big benefit and if you use the 85 series verses 80 series, a half inch is gained on trailer height.

You have to have the nose slightly below level or it will do that. You probably need to adjust the hitch. Also make sure all tires truck and trailer are fully aired up to max.

I too never had a 5er sway even in gusty winds at 30+. Sounds like the pin needs lowered and more weight up front. My FW tank is in front of the axels, full and heavy passthrough load as my 3761FL has more storage space than even my wife can fill in the rear. Although everyone likes 6" of space between the rails I've been running for years with barely 5" on 3 different Montanas.

I think it is PIN WEIGHT. I had a problem years ago with a boat behind a suburban the first time I picked up a new boat & trailer from teh dealer. Spun me completely around going down hill. The trailer had almost NO pin weight the boat dealer had set it up to be easy to set the hitch on the ball. the problem turned out to be teh trailer taking weight of the rear wheel of the tow vehicle. A lot of damage to boat trailer, suburban and clothing.

30#'s of air in the bags, with the trailer off the truck or weight on ? I ran 8#'s in my Jimmy with weight off, that translated into 28# weight on. Any higher & my Jimmy suspension was not doing any work, I may as will have placed blocks of wood in the suspension. The springs need to travel or it will become dangerous.

Is you truck raised? I pull a MHC 305RL with a GMC 2500HD. My truck bed is 34" off the ground when hitched, trailer is almost level (maybe an inch nose high) and I have good clearance between truck rails and overhang. If your bed is more than 36" high unloaded, you may have the wrong tow vehicle.

check out your tires, springs. alignment, and level out that set up. 3 in is high, but should not be the cause of this problem..
if the axles on the trailer are not towing true it is pulling off to one side then bouncing back. thus the tail wagging the dog.
crawl under and check ALL measurements. anything not right get it to a shop that can fix this.

Raise the pin box on the trailer. I agree that you don't have to have 6 inches of clearance. Needs to be level before you can even determine what's going on.

Had a similar thing happen pulling cargo trailer. One of the steel belts on one tire had separated, and a tire on the opposite side had lost its balance weights. Might want to consider looking at these.

You want to be pretty level, BUT I think 2 inches high in the front won't hurt. I have had 2 Montanas on the current truck (a 2012) and have NEVER had any fishtailing and I am 2 inches high up front. Maybe because I have quite a bit of pin weight on the truck. Don't know about that tho.....????

We have a 3731FL, similar floorplan at least front to back though maybe a bit heavier, and similar tv. We have never had any sway or fishtail though I have felt movement in strong gusty cross winds. My experience with bumper pulls is any fishtailing is nearly always not enough pin weight. Our f/w tank is in the rear and even with it full have not had a problem. Unless you are loading the rear storage with bricks you should have enough pin weight. I'm thinking you being 3" high in front is the issue. We don't have air bags and our rig runs level. Unless your truck is modified and is very high you should be able to get it level w/o sacrificing bed clearance. I'd also start with a trip to the scales then you will know just what your pin weight is.

We fulltimed for 6 years in a 2012 3585SA which is a RK and never had a problem with pin weight. One can always shift items to front storage to compensate. We've had 3 Montanas and it was the best pulling of all 3.

Fishtail
We have a 2011 3585sa, towing with 05 f250 stock suspension. Hitch was too high when first installed, lowered it 4.5 inches, but even when high, never had any problems with fish tailing. As others have stated, find out what pin weight is. This problem is almost always from trailer lifting tv rear. I would definitely check that before I spent money on anything else.
