Air Conditioner Stops Running
I have a 2016 3791RD with two Dometic Penguin 15,000 BTU ducted air conditioners. The one in the living room works fine but the one in the bedroom is a problem. I turn it on and the fan starts and then the compressor starts. They both run a few minutes and then both stop. It will not restart unless I turn it off and then back on at the thermostat. I've cleaned the filters but that didn't solve the problem. Any suggestions

Check to see if the vent is directing airflow from the AC towards the thermostat sensor in the bedroom. It is usually mounted on the wall somewhere, ours looks like a miniature whiffle ball (about quarter sized). If cold air is directed at the sensor, obviously the thermostat will shut off the AC in a very short amount of time.

Thanks for the response but that's not the problem. My sensor is located behind the thermostat cover and both vents are pointed away from it.

With two air conditioners and two zones and a single thermostat, there should be two sensors, ours has a separate sensor in the bedroom. This is all dependent on there being just one thermostat?

Thermostats are separate for each unit. Going to have a guy come over and blow out the fins around the condenser and see if that does the trick. If not I'll be calling the tech guy to come check it. I'm headed toward Texas next week and have to have it working by then.

Can't imagine why keystone would put two thermostats in a montana...but hey, they do what I consider strange stuff sometimes. Sounds like they didn't get some of the wiring in place prior to the unit moving on down the line. If none of the vent covers are pointed directly at the thermostats and no codes are thrown to either thermostat, then ???? It sort of sounds like it is encountering high head pressure and that is what is causing it to fall out. Turning thermo off and then on shouldn't allow a restart for the period of the safety timeout, which is a couple of minutes. Not any help to you... John

I know you said you do not have two thermostats but sounds exactly like our bedroom unit in our '11 3400. The thermostat for the bedroom unit was next to the AC unit in the ceiling. Dealer moved it to the side of the room next to the TV and solved the problem. Just saying!

I turn the thermostat off when the AC stops and turned it back on and it restarts within about 10 seconds. It will run about 5 minutes and shut down. It blows cold air while it is running I just can't keep it running.

Since we've flogged the remote thermostat sensor in the bedroom to death (I'm pretty sure ones there) ... I'll propose the wall mount main control thermostat may be at issue. The reason is the OP says it'll run and blow cold air till it shuts off completely ... he can then turn the control thermostat off and back on and it will start back up within about 10 seconds. If the A/C had tripped on high pressure or excessive current draw ... it would not cool down enough in a few seconds to start right back up again.
On Edit ... OK I re-read and he says definitely two wall thermostats ... I still lean towards the thermostat for the same reason and agree with jcurtis934 about the cool down time.

Agree, I suspect the AC is responding to thermostat directions

I'm cool this morning. Problem resolved. Something wrong with the thermostat. When the thermostat is set to slow fan speed and the temp is reached a signal is sent to stop the compressor and the fan but then no signal is sent to restart the system when the temp rises. This only happens with the fan set to slow speed. If I set the fan to high speed it shuts down and then restarts when needed. I'm good to go as long as I run the fan on high speed. Add the thermostat to the list of things to be fixed when we go in for service. Thanks for all the replies.

The AC in my living room is doing the exact same thing as Mikes. I also have the same setup, I have two separate thermostats, one in the bedroom and one in the living room. The one in the bedroom works flawlessly. If I put the one in the living room on low, or automatic, it will cut off at the selected temperature but never turn back on no matter how hot it gets. If I put the fan on HI it works just fine, the compressor cuts in and out as needed.

Have you cleaned the filter on your bedroom ac unit? Airflow could be a problem, causing distress to the unit. JUst a thought.

My front AC does exactly the same, and the returns are clean. Before this thread was started I suspected the thermostat was faulty so I bought one for $44; very easy to change out. However, it didn't fix the problem. There must be some communication problem at the AC control board. However, I'm going to confirm that both t-stats are wired the same before giving up.

Remember that the condenser fan and evap fan are the same, when run on low speed, not enough air goes through the coils on the roof to keep head pressure (refrigerant) down to operating temperature/pressures.
Long story short, above around 90 degrees, plus or minus ? You must run the unit on high speed.
Good luck folks, this heat is brutal
