quartsite help needed
We are leaving Atlanta tomorrow A.M. Heading west with Quartsite as destination. Not in any hurry so don't have an eta but expect to take 4 to 6 days. There will be Two Montanas (MOC members) and we would like some advice on where to perch when we arrive. Are not adverse to boonieing. Any info we get b4 we get there will be appreciated. Hopefully, we will be able to get online somewhere alone I20 on the way. Thanx

Do NOT come to Qurartzite this time of year expecting to find a commercial FHU park. They were all spoken for many months ago. I suppose one might get lucky and find a spot someone cancels out of.... but do not depend on it. Quartzite is BOONDOCKING! There is plenty of space for that in spite of the 250,000 to 500,000 RVs you will see in the area at this time of year. It is an amazing sight!
Specifically your best bet is to exit at Hwy 95. There are long term visitors areas south of town starting as soon as you exit. You will see the signs. They will most likely be full or nearly so. Just keep going south until you see a spot you like that is vacant. You can do pretty much the same thing going north.
Last year we stayed north about 5 miles and plan to go back to same area. It is somewhat less busy and much less dust. Of course this year it has rained a lot and so mud may be the problem instead of dust. But first hand reports I've heard indicate no problems with the rain.... other than a lot more green on the desert! It should be a very colorful scene very shortly.
Plan to boondock and you'll have a great time. Enjoy. HamRad

Or continue North on AZ 95 past Quartzite towards Lake Havasu City. About 15 miles before you get to the city you will see a sign for Arizona State Park "Cattail Cove" You will love it.
It is on the Colorado River.Sandpoint Marina is right next to the State Park, It has a convienance store and a Small restuarant. Absolutely beautiful this time of year. If you do not like crowds get out of the area before Memorial weekend.
Hope you enjoy thr trip.

trukdoc,
My mapping program indicates that the area you are talking about is about 62 miles NORTH of Quartzite. It is a great area. But then I love the desert so it's all great! And there is some BLM land up that way too.

Your correct North. I could drive there blindfolded from anywhere but typed the opposite of what I was thinking.
When I lived in Ca. we went there often boat camping. I too love the desert. I am here in Texas due largely to economics.
Havasu city is a beautiful city.
Not to mention fantastic Striper fishing!

trukdoc,
Like you I have many places I could drive to in my sleep but could not tell you how to get there!! If you haven't been to Lake Havasu City in a while then you would not recognize it! It has grown and changed significantly. It won't be long until sub-divisions and housing developments will surround all the "Cattail Coves" of the world!! Thanks for the info and keep on fishing.
