Removing Hitch from Bed
Has anyone built any nifty lifting devices to ease the install and removal,of your hitch? My Reese slider and adapter frame for my Ford are quite heavy. Even when I breakmit down into the three "pinned"'pieces my wife and I struggle tomgetvthem up in the bed or to unload them when not towing.
I have seen some pictures of garage hoists mounted to the garage ceiling and I was wondering if anyone here has built one.
I am thinking unistrut in my garage attic sandwiched to unistrut against the ceiling, then a couple rollers to mount an electric hoist. Now I need to get executive funding approval from my darling wife...

I use a 1 ton chain hoist mounted in the ceiling of my shop. I am thinking of switching to an electric hoist.

I thought of using one of those fold up engine hoists from Harbor Frght fpr $149. That way I can wheel it around and drop it where I want it. Course it would have to be on concrete...

That is what I use (although I think mine is called a shop crane), and I got it on sale for $99. Folds up for storage and wheels around on our concrete driveway easily. Here is what I am using:
Harbor Freight Shop Crane

I am using a 17 year old Grandson. When I look at the cost to feed him when he is at our house I am sure it would be cheaper to buy a hoist.m

Went the cheap route, just a chain hoist for the few times we use it.

Like Bingo, I use a engine crane. I found one on Craigslist for $80 that came with an engine stand and two jack stands. Some folks here just leave the hitch attached to pin on the trailer and drive out from under it, leaving the hitch hanging on the pin. It works.

I leave it attached to the 5th wheel, pull the 4 pins that hold it to the rails, raise the front end of the 5th wheel and drive forward. I have a stand that I put under the hitch and lower the 5ver so that the hitch is supported by the stand.

Great responses and thank you all for the great ideas! I never even thought about leaving it attached to the pin - that may be my first solution. The shope crane/engine hoist is also a good idea.
What ever I decide, I will be sure to post pictures.
Thank you again MOC!

Since my back surgery's, , I use the "NDNDW" combination and am very satisfied with the results! It's no strain on me what so ever!

I usually use my Massey Ferguson compact with a loader on the front but I can't get all the way into the bed so have to move it back a little bit to pick it up and then I set it on a pallet until we decide to head out again. I do plan on purchasing an engine hoist or a power hoist to mount to the ceiling but that could be a problem also since the ceiling in the "Montana Home" is 16 ft high! Going to figure out how I can do that however.

I mounted a ATV 12v winch from Harbor Freight to header in garage. About $60 on sale. I lower it onto a furniture dolly from Harbor Freight, $10? I get power for the winch from my truck 5th wheel connection.

I guess having the Reese Slider has some benefits. I had to take mine out yesterday in order to haul something. Two pins and the head easily lifted off, four more pins and the base came right out. Went back in just as quickly.

My B & W also easily breaks down into 2 pieces. One for my 32 yo son and one for my 35 yo son-in-law.
