Sure surprised me
We drain the water heater a couple of times a year and use a water softener most of the time so I never invested in one of those little wands to wash out the inside of the heater tank. It seemed draining the tank got out most of the stuff. Saw one of those wands on sale this fall and picked it up not expecting much. Changed the anode rod yesterday and used the wand and was surprised at the amount of scale and crud that came out. It is worth doing, even if like us you filter and soften your water.

Lots of crud does come out when you use the little wand especially if you haven't used it before or missed a year in between use. Seems like the water here in Q and Imperial Dam really causes a lot of crud even when you filter your water before it goes into your trailer.

We get the same thing with Florida water but not so much with Northern Ohio water.

Couldn't agree more, just another little procedure we do twice a year and at the same time check the rod.

We had our serviced by our dealer last year and we couldn't believe the amount that came out of ours either. Our Anode was eroded down to the steel core also. I thought it would last longer than that.

I have one and it's on my semi annual maintenance checklist. Not expensive either!
