Replace carpet with vinyl plank
DH wants some help. We are replacing our carpet with Allure vinyl planks and replacing the carpet on the slide. We are not sure what is under the carpet. 1. Will we have to remove the old vinyl and will we have to lay a subfloor? 2. The carpet in the slide appears to be glued down...can it just be ripped up? 3. Do we glue the new slide carpet down when installing it? TIA

I might be able to help with part of your questions. I just pulled up the carpet in our unit and replaced with Pergo an found all the carpet has a tack strip and is stapled down in spots.. We are going to replace the carpet we left in the slide will new carpet. This to has a tack strip around the outside with some staples. Also the only thing under the carpet is a cheap pad that has deterated so there was nothing left.

We replaced the main carpet, but left it in the slides and it works well for us.

We just did the same as you are asking this past summer on the living room and dining room slide. It worked well, but the transition from slide to main floor was a bit of a trick. Once we finally figured it out, it worked well. We pulled all the carper out and found thin insulation that we left in place. Then laid the planks directly on the insulation. My wife documented the install on the following blog.

Good Luck!

thanks all. What is under the carpeting? It looks like the vinyl floor but want to make sure. Also, did anyone have to prep the vinyl floor before laying the planks?

We ripped out the carpeting and the vinyl. Remember if you don't, you're adding height to the flooring and risking slide scratches or even interference, so you need to keep the floor height as low as possible. We had nothing but particle board under our vinyl. Stripped it to the particle board (except the slides, we left the insulation in tact). Spent one day just removing staples, dust, and small nails from the particle board flooring before laying the planks.
