Dodge Recall
Got a recall in the mail from Dodge. 2008-2012 1500,2500,&3500 series trucks are being recalled to have the steering linkage components replaced. Seems the left tie rod ball stud may crack without warning under "certain driving conditions".

My oldest son is a Ser mgr at a dodge dealer. I called him this am and asked about it. He said that they had not received exact info yet. They had no parts yet, and their phone was ringing. As soon as he tells me the specifics, I will post here.

Talked to my dealer last week. Won't take appointments for the recall untill 1/6/14 and is not sure how quick the replacement parts will come in. Per the SM they are replacing outer tie rod ends on both sides.

I believe this is the second recall on the left tie rod. The first recall was for an inspection with possible replacement. That was back in 2010.

I got one too, can't do anything until 1/6. Depending on what happens, I may order Moog replacements and do it myself.

Don't you wish they would explain what the certain driving condition is the cause so an owner/driver can try to avoid it? Even if one couldn't avoid it, then knowing you did the certain driving condition might help the owner/driver keep an eye out for the problem and keep themselves safer than from being ignorant. A little better information might help and I don't own a Dodge but feel for a Dodge owner that might incur a problem, especially since a Dodge owner might worry about me since I own a Ford with a 6.0 PSD...

Hi
I expected to get one on the ball joints or steering joints for our 2009 Silverado because the dealer in Spokane Washington had replace all of mine when the vehicle was in for service in 2010 with less that 30,000 mile on it. Never heard any more about it. ????

My son did some research today and told me tonight that the tie rod recall is in place and there is conversation about another recall coming soon. He said as soon as he has good info that he will tell me so I can post it here.

These are 2 different recalls. One is L16 ( http://www.ramtrucks.com/webselfservice/pdf/L16.pdf )which I had done in 2012 and the latest is N49 ( http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/..._ids=13V529000 )which just came in the mail. N49 recall says to call dealer AFTER 06 January 2014.
