Montana slips to # 2 position
Well I was told by a big Montana Dealer yesterday that Montana sliped to # 2 position behind Cougar. I can see why. Keystone is building the Cougar to the spects of the Montana but its shorter and cheeper. It fits the young and those are the people that are buying more units. They have been 1st now for 2 months. not a long period but something to watch. I think Montana should expand the line down to the 30' units that are so popular today

John, we saw a lot of Big Horns when we traveled out west and back. Lots of them on the road too.

I have seen a lot of other Keystone RV's out there and some do look prity good, and some I think would look good hooked up to my TV. but I got a montana and I am happy with it, along with its durability and decore. I will want to see how long Cougar holds the number one position, and then hold the two charts together and look at the peaks and valleys.

It is my understanding that they are both #1 in their catagory. By that I mean price range. It has been that way for some time.

Last year at the Fall Rally we were told that Aram was also incharge of the Cougar line. Aram also told us that the Cougar was like a mini Montana.

We traded up to the Montana from a Couger. It was a large improvement in quality in my opinion. The Cougar was very nice but lighter built and not the same quality cabinets, fittings and furnishings. We liked it a lot but like the Montana more.

We also moved up from a Cougar to Montana. We wanted more room and a full size bed. Just looked at the new Cougars and they are making them much nicer, I still like being able to stand up in the bedroom, new Cougars still don't offer that feature for tall people.

We have said this before. We see many, many Cougers on the road and we thought that the Couger was # 1 a long time ago but sales numbers tell the tale.
Montana and many other brands in that price range have got more expensive and way more heavier over the years and the Couger is a well built affordable 5th wheel that can be pulled with a 1/2 ton truck.
The Couger is a good choice for the weekender
Just my opinion many of the mid level brands are pricing them selves out of the market and we can observe that they are, including Montana making more lighter weight models.

I remember while doing the PDI on 3400 back in 2009 there was a Everest with the same floor plan also in PDI. Big different in dry weight, carrying capacity, storage, decor and finish. They look similar on the surface but that is about it.

I'd consider a Cougar, but that's the last logo a single woman traveling alone wants plastered all over her fiver!

I think this has a lot to do with Keystone no longer making the 2880 and 2955RL.the smaller units
2955RL was the most popular coach not so many years ago I thinking these buyers are going over to Cougar where a 3/4 HD will get the job done

A Cougar vs Montana comparison is an apples to oranges comparision. That's like comparing a Honda to an Acura or a Toyota to a Lexus.

JMHO but I think If I were Keystone who ranks #1 or #2 should not matter in the grand scheme of things.....making sure that their product is produced at the highest quality you can buy should be....If that end of the business falls in line so does everything else!

Well I frequent the Keystone Forum and you should read all the problems many of those Cougar owers are having, like the bedroom window falling out while going down the highway. Montanas may have some problems, some more than others, but nothing comparied to the Cougar and Outback folks.

Here's how to tell quality from crap. Look at the hardware in the drawers. The Cougars are junk. The Montanas are not. I had to reinforce all my Cougar drawers and cabinets because of the low quality materials used in the construction. I havn't touched my Montana. At the time I thought my Cougar was wonderful. . .until I stepped into a Montana. World of difference. In its catagory, the Cougar may be number 1, but its not a Montana and never will be.
