He did it again!
So we're on the way home from our daughter's place in San Jose. We made our usual stop at Harris Ranch. We're getting back in the truck and our daughter was walking her dog (Daisy). Our boys are in the truck ready to go and of course they see Ms Daisy and get all excited. I turned my head for just a moment and next thing I see is Spike running up to Ms Daisy! He had jumped (actually launched is a better descriptor) out of the window!
It is amazing but once again no damage. Of course we're watching him closely in case there are delayed injuries. So far he is totally normal. I've got to be much more careful. Going to keep the window up from now on. Watch them closely cause "stuff" can happen in an instant! Dennis

wow your lucky Dennis, my son almost lost a dog that did that, it landed wrong and twisted something inside the intestine area, they didnt know untill the vet saw the dog when it was not feeling as spunky as it usually was, took a opperation to fix the problem.
the dog now wears a pet seat belt.

Don,
Thanks for comments. This is his 3rd time!!! While he is a bit bigger than his 'brothers' he is still a relatively small guy. His little legs are maybe 6 to 8 inches. I cannot believe he continues to do this! I can assure you that that was his last time to jump out while I'm in control of that window button! Famous last words I know. We will certainly keep our eyes on him. So far he is behaving like he should. He and Ms Daisy are running and romping as they usually do. You and Georgia have a great New Year. Hope to see you again one of these days. Happy camping. Dennis

Wow! So glad the little guy wasn't hurt. You have to give it to him, he has no fear!

Jim,
Spike does not know the meaning of the word "fear"! He will be concentrating so hard on the other dog that he simply acts without thinking.
Bob,
The 'net' is a good idea. One of those like they use in NASCAR might work!
Thanks for comments guys. Happy Trails, Dennis.

Dennis:
Our little 5 lb Yorkie has real separation anxiety with us. As soon as I pick up the truck keys, put my shoes on, or pick up my coat he starts to shake and sits by the door. I'll tell him to stay and he will go stand under the dining table and wait for his chance to launch himself out the camper and sit by the truck door. I had to install a gate to create a space inside the door to prevent him from hurting himself. Of course he goes with most times but sometimes he has to stay.
Happy New Year.

Glad to hear he wasn't hurt. We're afraid of something similar happening with our dog which is why she travels in a Vari-kennel.

Glad he's ok! That's a good description of our cats, also. One of these days we're going to lose one, even as careful as we try to be.

Funny that you folks should post regarding Spike at this time. Just this evening he jumped up in my lap and I took the opportunity to check him (yet again) to see how he was doing. No problems whatsoever! He seems to be blessed dog. He continues to be one of the most mellow and loving dogs we've ever had. I will miss him when he goes to his forever home with our daughter. The found a place in Seattle that has a wonderful back yard for him to run and play in.
The Rally in Arizona will most likely be his last Rally with his fellow travelers Buddy and Bandit. He loves his playmate Daisy who currently lives with our daughter's family. They are soul mates! She has stayed with us several times and they are shadows for each other. In addition to that Spike is a long haired and double coated dog. He was made for the weather in Seattle. Happy Travels, Dennis and Mary Kay and the boys!

Sophie, our black whippet, did one of those launches right out the window one time when a bird flew by the vehicle. She definitely is a good sight hound, but just didn't get the memo that she's supposed to chase rabbits, not birds. Glad Spike is okay!

Walt and Lynne,
Excellent idea. Go for it. If you do make such a business I'm sure Spike would love to have the thing named after him. Good to look at events like this with your positive approach. Thanks. Dennis
