Mount Washington, NH
Wow! What a ride.
We went up Mt. Washington Auto Road yesterday. We were in my son's Ford Explorer. They will not let 1 tons go up the road - nor would I want to take my F350 up that road. Narrow, no shoulders, and shear drop offs on the side. It's about 8 miles to the top, and it is 6288 feet up in the clouds!!! It's a must see if you get to that area.
Life is good!

Did he get the "This Car Climbed Mt. Washington" bumper sticker???
Never understood the significance of that sticker until we made the climb.

Incredible isn't it? My dad and I drove up when I was 15 years old. I was scared out of my mind, but it was so gorgeous when we got to the top!

Not being able to take the 3500 up the road we took the Mt Washington Cog RR to the top. Fantastic trip and view. Isn't this a great country.

We did the Cog Railway as well. Even that is quite the experience but one I'd do again. Don't think I'll ever earn another bumper sticker. The guys that drive the vans up and down everyday must have nerves of steel. Not a job for the squeemish.
"Dually Days on Mt Washington" sounds interesting. Maybe you ought to talk to them about that. But, I guess my SRW wouldn't qualify and you know what? I'm glad.

I did have fun!!
COG for a family of four was $159.00. Kids didn't want to spend that much and Mom and Dad didn't want to "spot" them on this one. They suggested the Auto Road. Once at the top, if you didn't want to ride down in the Auto, you could take the COG back for $42.00
Round trip on the COG for one is $59.00. It's about 3 1/2 hours. 1 hour 15 minuts up and then down and 20 minutes at the top. The drive up was about 45 minutes to an hour. We did stop once on the way down to cool the brakes. Smelled a lot of break linings coming down when we were going up.

We did both excursions two years ago this fall. We took the Cog train one day and the Van (no way am I going to drive up there). We spent a week in the area. So much to see and do. Well worth the time and money. Have a Good Day

It's really a great site if you hike it. I did a few yrs back, long way up, but you get to the bottom faster. Had a picher of bloody mary's when I arrived at camp.

30 years ago, maybe not even that long, I could have hiked it. Now, with my knees, it was a problem just walking up the steps to the summit!

We've hiked it 3 times, taken the train 5 or 6 times and driven up oodles of times. I never get enough of it. If you don't mind no hookups, our favorite place near the mountain to camp is Dolly Copp in Gorham, NH. Fairly large treed sites. My children and grandchildren grew up in that campground.
