Getting around Phoenix
I'm looking for advice from those in the know.
In a couple of weeks we'll go to Camp Verde, AZ. We'll come from the west, on I-8. We'll cut north on 85 at Gila Bend, to I-10. Then east on I-10.
What is the best way to get to I-17 north from I-10?
1. 303 Loop to Lake Pleasant Rd to 74 to 17?
2. 101 Loop to 17?
3. Or just stay on 10 until reaching 17?
Thanks.

Going through Phoenix is never easy. I usually just stay on 10 until I hit 17. There never is an easy way. I just usually stay in the lane next to the right lane and just watch all the idiots cutting in and out and try to keep my distance. Be safe and good luck. It'll probably be a little cool up there but it is a nice area. We will be up there in March for spring break with our granddaughters.

I agree with Bob. I-10 to I-17 and do it in the middle of the day well before afternoon rush hour. It "usually" moves pretty well, so fast sometimes it is scary.

Thanks to both of you. I'll plan our route to go direct from I-10 to I-17.
Bob, we'll be there from 2/14 through 3/13. If you arrive during that time, be sure to let us know.

Steve, we traveled 17 almost everyday when we were in Phoenix last year visiting my brother in Sun City. Wish I was there now. You shouldn't have any trouble except during rush hour when it is typically crowded. You'll pass the "cactus bowl" on the east side of the road, home of the 2008 Super Bowl

Thanks, Judy. I'll keep an eye open for that.
On the map, 303 loop and 101 loop look like good alternatives but you can never tell for sure from a map. Experience of those who have been there is hard to beat.

What ever you do don't go through on Superbowl Sunday! I beleive we get up to Verde the 19th so we'll probably miss you. From there we go to Tucson for the Spring Ralley.

I'm sorry to hear we'll miss you, Bob. Maybe another time.
We won't be anywhere near there on Super Bowl Sunday!

Steve and Vicki..............Whatever you do try to come through after 9 and before 3. John says he would take the 303 to 99th avenue, take a left and go north on 99th avenue, take 99th Ave. to Carefree Highway (I think that is 74), take a left to the New River Rd (about 300 ft.) New River Road will take you to I17. This is the way we came home from Quartzsite.......this way you miss all the traffic and construction. We actually live at Anthem, just 3 miles south of New River. We live out this way and the 17 is all torn up from the 101 to the Carefree Highway making two additional lanes each way.
Let us know when you are coming through and we will have lunch with you. Why are you going to Camp Verde. It is still pretty cold there. There are campgrounds in Black Canyon City. Good Luck

Steve,
We have traveled from Yuma on the way to Colorado for the past 11 years. When heading toward Phoenix from the West we usually take I-8 to Gila Bend and catch 85 north to I-10 then east to the 101 Loop then to I-17 and onto Camp Verde and north. Seems like the most traffic is usually the 20 miles on I-10 from 85 to the 101 Loop. It is not a bad route.

Steve, the best and the less stressful route would be to take Loop 101 from I-10 to I-17. Visited by Dad in Sun City West over the last 25 yrs the last 3 with the Monty and that definitely would be the route I would use.
