sleep number bed
Has anyone replaced their king size mattress with a sleep number bed and if so, how did you go about installing the compressor to run it under the bed?
Thanks. Silverbird - we have a 2955 RL 2006

My number is 70. No problems here. You may need a set of extension hoses.

Where did you locate the compressor to run the air bags? Did you put it under the bed or somewhere else? Also do you have the remotes that have the wires connected and if so, do the wires create a problem when putting in and out the slide?
Thanks

I put mine under the bed and then drilled holes on the plywood for the hoses and one in the side of the base to run the electric cord through. I find that I need to unplug the unit when I run the slides in though, to keep from pinching it.

Ours is only a queen size. The entire unit lays between the bed base and the night stand. Stays plugged in all the time. No problem with slides as entire unit is on the slide.
You need to remember to drop the air if going to higher altitudes.

We have been looking at the sleep-number beds but the reviews are not very good on-line.Lots of people are having problems with the beds losing air in the night. Also lots of complaints with customer service and the warranties. Can anyone shed some light on these things for me.Was all ready to purchase but backed away for a while due to these things. Thanks for any information. Alice

There will be several people that swear by the air beds, but many others including me just can't seem to find the magic number that would justify the cost. I went as far as trying the select comfort, but returned it in the end. I bought a 4" memory foam topper online and have never looked back ... sleeps great and about 1/4th the cost of an air bed. FYI ... the foam toppers at Wally World are not thick enough IMHO.

I will ditto Dieselguy...
The 4 inch foam from Overstock.com and a good mattress cover cannot be beat in my 55 years experience...

The only way I would sell mine is to make enough to buy two. It is the most comfortable bed I have ever had. I normally like a soft bed, but when I have had a hard day and my back is sore I can stiffen it up till I feel better. DW can put hers anywhere she wants to. As far as customer service we had one chamber leak. I called customer service they sent a replacement within two days with a return postage tag to put the bad one in and ship back. There are different tops to put on it. The mattress never gets a sag in it, I know of one person who does not like their bed and they bought the cheapest version there was. We ordered ours with the dual corded controls and pillow top. the reason for dual controls and not the wireless is if you make an adjustment when you are half awake you are liable to upset your partner. I wish they had memory foam at the time. I admit it is a bit pricey. As for me I have nothing bad to say. Radisson hotels boast the select number bed, they use the cheap version the pump sounds like a vacuum cleaner and the top was hard. You can try out the different models at the stores found in many malls. Would not hurt to dicker with the salesman.

Dieselguy is definitely correct. Just spent the week on the Wally World special and should have listened to Dave about Overstock (Sorry Dave, I have a hard time convincing DW to purchase anything on-line). The Wal-Mart 4" is actually 1 1/2" of memory foam on 2 1/2" of foam rubber that when measured total about 3"????? I must admit it is better than what we had, but we should have and could have done better. Guess I will have to sneak the Kipor on-line purchase by her????? Hopefully, next week the order will be placed.

I did some research and went and tried the sleep no. and decided to go with the airbedsunlimited mattress. Was cheaper and i think a better made mattress. Warranty was also better. I do not wake up sore now and can adjust to my needs when i need it and my wife.

We all have different backs...What works for one..does not for another... We went with the Americana bear bed. It is the same as the sleep number ..execpt..that the pumps are internal to the mattress so there is no problem on where to put the pumps. We have had it for over a year in the camper, with no problems. I would not have believed difference it made.

We put a sleep number in ours after sleeping on the factory mattress for about 6 months. Noticed an immediate improvement on the back and our sleeping. Didn't feel tired or wore out in the late afternoon anymore. Bed is pricey but feel my back is worth it. We have the compressor on the side of the bed below the window in the slide out. I like the idea of mounting it under the bed and drilling holes for the cords to run through. I did have to go and get additional hose to add on. Love the bed, have had no problems with it so have not had to deal with customer service.

We also have a air bed from Americana Bear Bed Co.
We had it custom made 72 x 77 with the corners sniped 45 at the foot to clear the sink. Can't believe the difference in comfort and the quality of sleep.

We've been using the air bed by Bear Bed for 3-4 months and are very happy with it.

Memory foam all the way. Bought an "irregular" off of eBay (Mrs Foam seller). Paid $105.00 for king mattress 7" (not topper but complete mattress). It had one of the corners with a small "pick". It came with a quilted cover so you can't even see the "pick". Sleeps great. Can't imagine any better sleep. My 0.02.

Pud2 - went to the nearest hardware store and just got clear plastic tubing. They also have the connectors too. Just put a quick tie on each end and wall la. No problems and no leaking.
