Wet Bolts
Tried to lube the web bolts yesterday and got nowhere. Seemed like my greasegun would not grab the zerk fitting, and even when held tight against the fitting, could not get grease in. What is the secret?

They are hard to get a gun on fully to allow grease to flow. I did change out some of them with angled zerks so that I could grease them without a flexible hose for the gun. You might just take a zerk out to see if grease can flow through it. I didn't have to do this...half of my zerks were missing when I did my first grease job and others were only finger tight. John

If you have an air compressor, go to Harbor Frght and get an air powered grease gun. That solved all my problems from getting the head to stay on to getting grease to go into the bolt.

After busting my knuckles trying to get my new grease gun nozzle loose from a zerk, I did a little research on the issue. I discovered that the nozzles are adjustable. The instructions I found say the nozzle can be screwed/unscrewed a little to tighten or loosen how tight the nozzle grabs the zerk fitting. Possibly, the end of the nozzle on your grease gun was a little too loose and was not gripping the zerk tight enough.

If all else fails, get some 45 degree zerks and some red locktight.
On mine the tire almost needs to be removed to get my gun on so they will take grease. If you pull a tire and still can not get grease in, pull the wet bolt and see where the hole in it is. It should be either at 9 or 3.
The bolt has serrations on the head end and you can NOT turn it installed. It has to be partially removed to be able to turn it.

You might try jacking up the Monty just a little to take some weight off the side you're working on. Some have the same problem with full weight on the suspension.

This is why I installed mine with the zerk on the inside. Have to get my fat A** under the axles but gives unobstructed access to the zerk. Jim

Sometimes you need to get the weight off the suspension to allow grease to flow.

I bought a Lock N Lube pistol grip grease gun (one handed) with locking grease coupler. Works great.
As mentioned above sometimes you need to take the weight off the axle by jacking up your rig.
The bolt needs to be installed so the eye is at 9 or 3 o'clock position with weight on wheels.
With weight on wheels, Mark the Shackle with a horizontal line on either side of the bolt head with a sharpie.
This will show you how to align the bolt in the Shackle with weight off wheels so the eye will be at either 9 or 3 o'clock.
If you have to remove a bolt, mark the head on the side of the eye for future reference.

I’d also get one of the cordless grease guns. It naked life so much easier… I just got one this year after using the 50 year old one I have handed down by my dad..
Well worth the money
