Propane
Not sure if right place but I have a question; getting ready for a trip to California , can I pull my fifth wheel with propane on for the fridge? Not sure about having tanks full while traveling?

I never turn the propane off when traveling.

Always did when we had Propane/Electric Fridge, now have a Residential and runs off the batteries through an Inverter.

Full or empty tanks do not matter. However, only one needs to be open to run that fridge. I've seen laws regarding using only one tank at a time, most often going through long tunnels.

There are some tunnels that require you to turn the propane off. There isn’t very many of them. The Chesapeake Bay bridge tunnel in eastern Va is the only one I’m aware of although I’m sure there are others.

We got caught on the I664 Tunnel from New Port News towards Virginia Beach. Were in one of the left lanes with a Semi on our right and didn't see the sign. Got closer to the Tunnel and the traffic light was Red and a person directing traffic thru, when we got there we were directed to the side and had to wait for a person to verify our propane was off.

The question of "propane on or off when traveling" has been an on-going debate for at least the last 25 years. At least, it's been an argument since I joined my very first forum, way back then.
I think you will find the answer is about 50/50 on this subject, and both sides of the question are usually adamant in their decisions.
The fact is, there has been only about one RV related fire in all of history that occurred at a gas station because the refrigerator was left running on gas. And from the story, it turned out the person at the pump swung the gas pump handle around and gas splashed on the outside of the refrigerator vents and thus, this is what actually caused the fire.
Ever since then, the controversy has been on-going.
But please, before making your decision, search the internet at least and search out the causes for RV fires and draw your own conclusions.
There are a few tunnels in the USA that do require all propane tanks must be turned off before entering. In over 37 years of RV traveling, we've encountered only 1 tunnel that required this. It even had a pull over check-point where we were asked if it was off and given an opportunity to get out of the tow vehicle and turn the tanks off before entering. That was a long time ago when we still had our pop-up, and I think it was somewhere near Washington, DC, or Maryland.
You know, it is now VERY, VERY refreshing that we have a residential refrigerator. I don't have to be concerned about operating the refrigerator on gas any more.... Pro or Con.
In the end, I think the decision will be yours if you travel with the refrigerator on gas or if the gas is turned off. But the most important thing is, that you are 100% comfortable and confident in your decision, which ever way you decide.

Why would you need to turn off the propane? That's why most RV fridges have an auto switch, they run on 110 when plugged in, propane the rest of the time. There was a time when some fridges also had 12V but that is rare now.

The only time I turn off propane to the fridge is when on a ferry or a tunnel. There are some Canadian provinces that prohibit towing with propane on but no one checks. If you are taking an extended ferry ride (like 8 hours between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia) start freezing water bottles a few days before the trip and put them in the fridge and freezer for the day of travel. Last time we did that, after 10 hours without propane, we still had ice in all of the water bottles.
