Dead Samsung Refrigerator 2018 3121RL
Hi All,
We have a 2018 Montana 3121RL with the Samsung residential refrig that I'm sure a lot of you have.
Recently, our fridge completely died. The power was coming on but the compressor failed to run and it did not cool at all. We called a local refrig repair company and they pulled the fridge out, and noticed a breach on the back that looked like rust had seeped through.
They called it a 'catastrophic failure' of the internals and that the refrigerator needed to be replaced.
Unfortunately now we're trying to deal with Samsung - they are claiming the warranty is only 1 year, but we should have 5 years on parts at least?
This has become a complete disaster for us and we are wondering if anyone else has had to replace this Samsung refrigerator? Now Samsung won't even stand behind it.
It's obviously retrofitted it's not like we can just go to Lowes and buy a new one, much less I measured and it seems like it won't fit through the camper doors to get it out and then somehow get a new one put in.
Thanks everyone, any info would be super helpful.
Scott Leary

Scott,
Our 2021 3121RL has GE. Sorry about the upside down photo (only way I could get my tablet close enought to shoot the label).

It’s a Samsung forget getting it fixed or warranty. We had one in our home a POJ. If you call a repair shop around here they won’t even come out. They will tell you buy a new refrigerator.
To get our Samsung out the house and a new one in we had to take the doors off. It isn’t hard to do.

I did a search for the Samsung RF18 and the GE model mentioned above and here is what came up.
$1500 - $1800 is nothing to sneeze at but the brain damage from dealing with Samsung will be numbing.

thank you all
hi all,
Thank you so much for all your kind replies. From what I can see, it looks like Keystone stopped putting the Samsung refrig into the newer 3121RL's, and probably all the other models as well. They may have figured out how junk they were.
The sad thing is, our 3121RL is a 2019 model, purchased in late 2018. The Samsung owners manual claims a 1 year parts/labor warranty and 5 years parts/labor on the sealed refrigeration system. Clearly per our repair company we called when we were back in home base/Dallas this fridge suffered an 'internal catastrophic failure of the refrigeration system' and we have photos to document. Even with this, Samsung refuses to honor the warranty.
We're far away from home on the road so Samsung tells us there are 'no technicians in the area' they want to send a tech out to inspect the fridge. So now we're stuck with catch-22. Do we pay ourselves out of pocket to replace the fridge (i.e. buy GE at Home Depot) or do we fight Samsung and travel cross country (again) in late August back home with a dead fridge? It was no fun but we survived with 2 bags of ice per day, a small dorm fridge, and a really great Yeti-type cooler in the back bed of my pickup.
Thanks again everyone

Good luck. We have a Norcold double door and I’m trying to find a residential that will fit the area. It wouldn’t be so bad if an island wasn’t in the way when the slide closes. So we have to get a smaller unit or try for a counter depth

You are lucky, we only got two years out of our Samsung before spending a couple hundred just to end up replacing it.

To be replaced, will it fit out the RV door?

Dealers will tell you that residential fridges in an RV are what they spend the majority of their warranty time on and many have stopped taking orders For trailers that have them installed installed. Residential fridges just aren't meant to be bounced down the road

You can buy one at Lowes. I did after my first one failed. It even comes with instructions on how to take door off. It is easy to change out.

Residential Fridges have been in Motor Homes for years. We've put 60K miles on our unit in the last 6 1/2 years and the only i9ssue we have is with the Ice Maker will freeze up if we're not using ice on a frequent basis. As far as warranty work, look at all the issues here and very few at Res Fridge related, plenty of Propane/Electric and of course the Samsung issues, but most dealers won't work on a Res Fridge as they know next to nothing about them, not really much difference than the rest of RV as far as I've seen.
