Watch for Wasps
A friend had parked her Class A next to our rig at our RV home base. Yesterday she went to move it and got stung. Her screen had shifted on her furnace opening next to her door and there was a nest in there about the size of half a baseball with wasps everywhere. Got them killed and or run out and then when she went to store her shore cord there was another group building a nest in the opening the cord comes out of. We've been spraying them all summer both around the rig and in our sheds. Just a reminder to look before you reach your hand in there.

Been there, done that. Good warning.
Good friend cracked his AC shroud on a tree limb and, him being physically unable to climb on the roof, I said I would replace it for him. Took the screws out and started to lift the shroud and out they came. There is no safe place to go on the roof. Still do not know how I kept from getting stung. I think maybe because I just sat back and was still as there was little else I could do. He tossed up a can of wasp and hornet spray and I managed to kill most and run the rest off.

Yeah, the A/C shroud is a popular spot for them. I got stung a few times last summer cleaning the roof, unaware they were around. I set my brush on the bedroom A/C shroud. Next thing ya know, I'm getting stung on the lower legs. Looked down and they were all around me. YIKES! Practically fell off the ladder trying to get out of there. Returned with spray and took'em out.

Before we started fulltiming, we often left the rig parked for months at a time on our driveway waiting for a rare outing. Even though I tried to keep up, the rig often got spider webs from several types of spiders, mostly black widows. I'd go out at on occasional evening and hunt for the proud black widows that came out at night and killed them when I could. Eventually, I stopped the nightly hunts I wasn't finding any more spiders. Oh well, they musta left or died from hunger.
NOT! Several months later I discovered empty mud dauber nests in my front storage area. There were several "tubes" of these mud structures and lucky for me, they were empty. The babies had hatched and were gone. In the process of removing these nests, there were numerous spider carcasses... ewwww. So I got lucky enough to wait long enough for mud daubers to lay nests and remove my rig of any spiders.
Now that we full time, I pay more attention. So far, the paper wasps are only occasionally found under the eaves of the house and we haven't see any mud daubers anywhere. As for the occasional spider, we get some almost every campground we stay in as we fulltime, but at least at a frequency I can manage.
I hope I never get stung by mud daubers, or paper wasps, and no spider bites either. There's danger in small packages out there, folks.

Had a Tarantula Hawk (wasp) get into the rig one night. It didn't build a nest or anything but silly me not knowing what it was spent 5 minutes chasing it around and trying to squash it with various shoes and magazines. I finally won and didn't get stung but had I known it packs the second most painful sting of any insect I would have planned my attack a bit better.

Yes, those dudes will usually leave you alone on the trail, but cornered they can really be bad news.

That's another place they seem to like.

Good idea Mark. Usually I don't think about wasps until they're swarming. That's good preventative maintenance.

I hate those things.......those and spiders. I've seen what a Brown Recluse Spider can do to one's body.

In Florida, opened my pedestal to plug in. First, opened cover and just before I put my fingers on breaker to assure it was off I did a quick glance noticing about 100 tiny black baby spiders in there and breaker was covered with a big silky web. I grab some ant spray I had out and gave them a bit of a drink and that is when a large black walnut size spider popped out of the cover. Look before reaching lessons learned...

I had some build a nest in my dryer vent big enough so the vent door would not open to let the hot exhaust out. My dryer eventually broke the drive belt, although I can't prove it was the nest that did it. After that, when ever parked in the barn, I covered all exhausts with plastic WalMart bags.

An oldie thread but still a good reminder as for many, just about the beginning of the camping season.
I've been 'nailed' by wasps under the pedestal cover. Also under the a/c cover. That can get exciting if you are on that 12 to 13 foot high roof

Worst red wasp incident I experienced was hooking up to a pontoon boat trailer that had been parked beneath a carport throughout a very wet spring. The trailer had surge brakes and the cavity for the actuator obviously had a very large nest up inside. Boogers got me a few times before I could get away. After eradicating the little boogers, I decided to always duct tape a large garbage bag over the whole tongue of the trailer.
Now don't get me started on knocking down the huge nest I found beneath the eave on the back side of the house last fall...... Reminds me of a line from the Forest Gump movie - "I'm not a smart man Jenny".....

That is correct and the bird nest in the pin box. It’s a good idea to keep a check on all of the out side.
