The cracking had nothing to do with me waxing them, it was stress cracks in the fiberglass of the front cap

They might have dropped the cap or bumped it during installation and the cracks appeared later. Same thing happened to our fiberglass shower. Glad you got it fixed; good luck getting decals fixed. Your camping world observations are similar to mine.
