We live in Eastern Ontario, Canada. These things have been part of our lives for many years. They hibernate in the attic and walls of our house, and then appear inside the house. They also infest our trailer. Some years we are getting rid of them into March (we go to Florida in November usually), some years only a few weeks.
We are home this winter due to the virus, so now we are still seeing them in the house. Apparently the best way to deal with them is to vacuum them up. I have Dyson hand vac which does the job nicely, and I secure a baggie over the hole so they don't come back out. I just sucked up five in the bathroom this morning.
Squashing them is not good because they give off a foul odour. They were actually introduced to the U.S. years ago to fight aphids on the crops. They apparently do a good job of that, but since they have no natural enemies, they are too abundant. They gradually migrated into Canada, so my guess is the only place you won't find them is any place where they don't grow crops (like maybe the desert).
