If you are going to thru Ashville to I26 slow down and pay attention to the exit markings. That area is has very sharp turns and blind hills along with traffic. The exit to I-26 is a left lane exit. Also the section of I-40 thru the mountains has a lot of fog and step grades.

Going to Ashville appears to be way out of the way. At Jefferson City get off I40 onto I81 and go straight to Bristol, I think.

The thing you would like to see in Ashville is the Biltmore estate. It’s worth the trip.
Another thing. I was on the Blueridge Parkway today. It has been going down hill for 30 years but up here south of Roanoke for the few miles I was on it, it was maintained better than I had seen it for decades. The weeds were cut like they used to be. Maybe with the new infusion of cash all of our National Parks will be better maintained and brought back to what they should be. Fingers crossed.

Just came thru OK and part of NM and the road was good but wind could gust up to 60 mph tomorrow in NM. It's always best to check ahead for wind particularly in NM..

Be sure to check for road conditions and weather. This time of year, I-40 can be deadly with snow and wind. If there is trouble anywhere along there, you may be better off detouring down to I-10 which will be less likely to have bad weather conditions.

Do this as there is no need to go through Ashville unless you want to sightsee.

The last time we were on I-81 it was in horrible shape. There were bad gaps between the seams of the road sections of that beat us up so bad we got off and take back roads. A section of I-10 in LA and parts of I-76 into Denver the same way.

It's nice on the lower end down by Asheville too. Very nice drive. But the'll shut it down with the least bit of frozen precipitation. We often spend Christmas in Asheville and use the parkway as a shortcut from the campground to shopping. Headed out one morning and they had the barriers down.

That is right any snow or ice and it’s shut down. Years ago 40 or so, we could get on the Parkway any time. I’ve went to the Peaks of Otter restaurant through 8 inches of snow. Now the food isn’t worth going for even if was free or they paid me to go. I miss it but there isn’t much I can do about it except to complain to the manager and that hasn’t helped. Oh well rant over back to our regular scheduled programming.
