New Ram factory air suspension question
I have a 2019 Ram 3500 with the factory air suspension system and am wondering how others with the same system deal with the constant automatic adjustment as you hookup and un-hook your 5th wheel.
Hookup isn’t that much of a problem but when un-hooking, the automatic adjustment of the suspension as you raise the trailer means I have to guess how high to raise the trailer to clear the hitch then make additional adjustments as needed.
Is there a way to de-activate the compressor during the Un-hooking so the bed will just stay in one position?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Mine wasn't original, it was added later, but it's the same system I just have a remote instead of it being on the dash. I worried about it at first, but mine doesn't put enough pressure on the hitch that I can't just drive off. My pullrite hitch usually needs be to back up a hair so it will open the jaws and during that time the truck closes the gap, but it's never caused a problem pulling away.

Does your truck have a air dump switch if so let the air out first then raise the landingear.

Looks like I have the same truck and air suspension. However, I've never had the air suspension adjust automatically when unhooking. With a 2011 3150RL, I've found I do not need to adjust the air suspension to level the truck. Joe.

My truck constantly adjust the bed height based on load. So when I hook up, the compressor runs until level is achieved. When I unhook, and the weight comes off the hitch, the air bags dump to bring the bed back to level causing the need to lower the front of the trailer in order to drive away.
Sure would be nice to be able to turn the system off while unhooking.

You should have a push switch below the climate controls where you Tow/Haul, Exhaust Brake and other switches are located. One of the switches switches off the air adjustment for hook up. Just make sure you turn it back on after you have hooked up.

I have one of those switches marked “Alt trailer height”. If I push that when trailer is connected, it lowers the bed about 1 1/2 inches. Without a load on the bed. It doesn’t do anything. I need to hook up tomorrow. I will push that switch before I unhook and see what happens.
Thanks for the feedback.

You need to push that before you connect or disconnect so the air system doesn’t try to keep the truck level.

Our Ram does this automatically. Its great and love it. When hitching the rear squats. The bags then fill to bring truck up. Unhitched the air is released. Just let it do its thing.

That's how my 2018 dually works, never been a problem.
I'll never forget the first time I hooked up to the 384br with my wife there, she says "the truck is leveling itself, look at that, how cool is that"!!

you can temporarily disable the air suspension by going to the Uconnect settings, select suspension, then select tire/jack mode, alignment mode, or transport mode. which should be done with the engine running.

Thanks JoeUSNRET,
I did find that works but I have a question. Do you know if all three of those modes do the same thing or do all 3 perform different functions?

Almost two year old thread. Suggest starting a new thread. You'll probably get more feedback that way. Good luck! I don't have auto leveling on our Ram, so can't give you a good answer. Good luck and happy camping
