CB radios
We are just starting out full time traveling and was wondering if anyone still uses CB radios. The thought crossed my mind when we encountered a road closure due to an accident and needed to find a good detour and also a more accurate location so I would know where to exit before it was too late. I figured the truck drivers or other RV’rs would know. I haven’t used one since I was a kid. Any input would be appreciated.

CB radio
I have wondered the same thing...but Dudley Do-right and Sweet Nell signed of for the last time in 1981. It was fun back in the day.

We have one it is a Cobra hand held. It is on all the time. It is just another tool to use when needed.

As truckers we have a CB, but only turn it on for accidents/road closures. Most truck drivers don't bother with it anymore so it's not always helpful.

We have one and turn it on when there is road closure or some kind of delay. It is sometimes helpful in getting more information on what’s going on. We got the radio given to us, but had to pay for the antenna and installation.

just bought a brand new President McKinley - its a blast and a lot of fun
Great to have Weather Alert running in remote areas where cell is not always reliable.

We have both CB and VHF/UHF ham radio onboard. Monitor CB19, and 146.520 simplex whenever we are underway. CB has been informative at times.

Waze app on your phone, if you put in your destination, is good about selecting the best route and notifying you if it detects a traffic problem ahead and will reroute you around it.
Google maps will do similar. Even our built in GPS will do similar.
And you don’t have to listen to the junk on the CB.

When we travel we have the CB on. It's rather quiet these days but it does help when incidents occur ahead. It's nice to know which lane might be closed two miles ahead. I also have a vhf/uhf radio scanner but it doesn't help much these days. Many public service agencies have gone digital and/or encrypted, which can't be scanned.
The WAZE app is great! I love it.
