Dealer tried to screw us when trying to buy a new RV
Well, we decided to buy a new 5th wheel at Lakeshore RV in Michigan.
We agreed on a trailer price and a trade in price. Then we ask for them to take off the 'starter kit' charge of $250...they did. Then we showed them the $1500 Montana coupon. All set with a new price...SAVED $1750.
When we brought our trailer in to take ownership of our new trailer they looked at the roof and because I had had a satellite up there---left the base on roof to not damage roof---they came back to use and said
'we have to reduce the trade in value by $1750.00 because you modified the roof...once by adding the satellite dish and then a second time by taking off the satellite dish' 'the only way to fix that would be to re roof the roof.'
We walked away from the sale. What a rip off.

I guess the lesson learned here is don't trade in trailers at Lakeshore RV. Did they give a trade in price sight unseen on your trade? Was it conditional upon inspection? Seems kind of coincidental that the price reduction was equal to the discounts you were able to get on the new unit. JMHO. I'd get a bad taste in my mouth on the deal too from such tactics.
Pity, as Lakeshore RV is one of the dealers on our short list for our future rig.

Maz,
You will generally do better selling your old rig yourself and not trading.

I think a new roof would cost more than $1750??? They were upset that they gave you all the figures and then you popped out the coupon. Their loss, not yours. Good luck at the next dealer.

Loyd Bridges in Chealse MI. treated us extremly well when we bought our new Montana. They gave us $1300 less than what we paid for our 2018 bullet new as trade, and 14K off the MSRP on a 2020 295 RL high country.

I don't recommend Loyd Bridges they changed pricing on me and signed my wife name on the contract. I had to take them to court to get my deposit back.
A&S RV center I bought 2 Montana's from them with no problems

Interesting stories out there. Like they've said for years, buyer beware.

We have always sold our trailers privately in the past, knowing that you get more that way. Two and a half years ago we decided to buy the Monty. A dealer several hours from home had by far the best price on the model we wanted. Then they asked about a trade. This is all being done over the phone, by the way. We told them what we had (a four year old Crossroads product). They offered us way more than we figured we could get for it. The clincher was you only pay sales tax on the difference. We were totally honest about what was not functioning on the trade. What they offered was pretty close to what we had paid new. This was all sight unseen!
Needless to say, we did the deal and everyone was happy. We also now know that you don’t always get more when you sell privately. Plus you pay more tax on the new one. This is the rule where we live, anyway.

In Michigan we pay sales tax on the new unit selling price.
