Another post about tires
My first post as a Montana owner. Just “downsized” from 2009 Tiffin Allegro Bus to 2016 Montana 3440RL. Previous owner developed health issues and said only pulled about 1000 miles.
Our maiden trip, bare essentials on board, 80lbs if air in late 2015 tires and traveling at 65mph, new TPMS installed - lost both DS tires - boom boom.
Did not like Trailer King Tire’s in the first place but thought we could make a shakedown run on them.
Now have 4 new G load range (14 ply rated) Onyx brand tires. Hope to get better wear out of these. Still Chinese made but what isn’t these days?

Bummer.... Hope you have better luck with these new tires. Haven't heard of this brand before, but the 14 ply should be better. Two tires blowing at same time is unusual. Having trailer sitting in one spot for long periods of time, more than 6 months on dirt or gravel probably isn't good for tires. Safe travels.

Would appear no sidewall damage?

The next time you need tires take a hard look at Sailuns.

I never heard of Onyx brand. Hope you didn't jump out of the frying pan into the fire.

When buying used RV trailers tire history is very important. Those tires could have been setting in the same place for 12-18 months and never inflated. Any overloaded weight on those tires will cause them to degrade. Faster depending on how much they were overloaded.
Funny how trailer tires all look alike. I saw those Onyx tires at a Walmart store not more than a month ago. They are very similar to other all steel brands I've seen at other big box stores.

Thanks
Thanks to all for the replies. Didn’t have any choice really on tires. Had to buy what roadside folks had at their shop. Since I was getting two, decided to replace all four. Will watch their wear closely and report back on how they perform.

One more thing you need to know. Trailer tires need to be replaced about every five years regardless of what the tread and sideways look like.

Timrph53 -
I don’t know if you have read the posts on TPMS, but compared to the cost of a blowout, it is cheap insurance.

Did you get any warning signs from your TPMS?
Temp, pressure etc?

The problem with "Blow-outs" generally there are no warning signs until you hear that "Boom".
I'm running a TST 507 and was running at 65 on the Ohio Turnpike. All tires were running within a couple of ponds of each other same for the temp and were 4 1/2 year old GY G114s and we heard that sicking "Boom" as the ODS Front tire exploded.

Lucked out, only took the plastic Fender Skirt. We were on our way to our SOB Rally and was given a replacement pair by one of the Factory Techs that were there. So no real cost to us, and Goodyear sent us a check for the cost of the tire.
