Dometic 3-Button T-stat Issue
I was solely in charge of getting the trailer ready to bring home after camping as my poor wife had to get up and leave for work at 5am. Normally, she handles the inside stuff and I, the outside. Well, short story is that I forgot to secure the bedroom door before I left (and I left the dog's retractable leash on the picnic table - but that's not important!) and when I got home, found the plastic cover with the buttons sitting on the floor in the bedroom. Apparently the door had slid and bumped the unit enough to knock the cover off. Everything looked fine so I snapped it back in place.
The problem is that as long as the cover is on, the "up" button seems to always be on. I look inside the cover and there is just foam for each button and I can touch each "pole" inside the thermostat and everything works without the cover on like it is supposed to. The only issue is that every time I snap the cover on, the "up" button is always depressed.
The cover is pristine with nothing showing pressed and there is no difference between any of the buttons on the cover such as the "up" button being pressed in or anything.
Thoughts???

Might try reprimanding her for not getting up early enough to complete her "stuff" before she left for work. Outside that I got nothing.

I may not be the brightest light, but I can safely say that I will not be taking THAT advice!

The only think I can think of is maybe one of the tabs that holds the face plate in place is either broken off or missed align and allowing the plate to rest too far in.
And yes wise man leave the wife out of this.

I checked that as well and the cover and box are pristine - no issues at all. I thought maybe the circuit board came loose and nope, not that either. With the cover off, I can touch the tabs and all works fine. It is the weirdest thing and is baffling me! Ugh...

Could be that that button is not fully retracted? Or the foam is just loose enough to press on the contact. It has to be something mechanical and not electrical I would think?

Band...
These thermostats have a history of being finicky, whether it was touched or not. Mine changed modes with no input at all, or by simply closing a cabinet door near it. Call Dometic and let them know it will only read “up” unless you take the cover off. They will likely just send you a new one.

Ours was not responding to touch last weekend. We took the cover off and used a toothpick to straighten out the little foam pieces. It's working now. Nothing happened to ours, it just decided to be wonky on it's own. Try poking the foam about a bit.

Thanks all. I fiddled with the foam and it now seems to be working. I wish it would have been something that I could have actually "fixed" vs. what feels a bit more like slapping the side of an old TV to make the channel clear like in the old days...
