Call me Lazy
Hi fellow Montana owners
Installed my progressive 50 EMS today behind the fuse panel,seems to be working fine but here is my question.I really just stuffed it back in there at an angle about 5 inches off the ground as it was very tight so tight in fact it probably won’t move going down the road,progressive was closed for advise but I’ll call Monday,I could mount in the closet if we’re a problem,what do you think is it ok to mount as described?

When I installed mine, I physically attached it to the inside of the exterior wall that is thicker plywood than the other walls around the panel. Even if the EMS doesn't appear to be able to move, with vibration going down the road, you risk damage to cables near the EMS if it is rubbing on them.

Well, I have made a mess of things. My PI EMS has been installed behind my main breaker/fuse panel without being mounted to anything in three different Montanas (2008, 2012, 2018) and haven't had a problem (so far).

Mine is mounted on the basement wakk also. IMHO it needs to be mounted so you can easily see the read out. Mine is an older unit and has no remote readout capability.

Thank you everyone for your reply’s,I’m not really lazy in fact just the opposite.
Took another look and managed to slide some 2x2s under the EMS for a much more secure mount.
I ran the cord for remote up inside closet and cover it with cable covers ...looks professional.
Just a dap of brown silicone where it exits wall and job done!

Not to sound crazy, what is a 50 EMS or PI EMS?

They are all abbreviations for the Progressive Industries' (PI) Energy Management System (EMS) which comes in 50 amp and 30 amp flavors. Another popular system is the SurgeGuard EMS.

As Carl stated above on the abbreviations is correct,if your asking what it does it basically protects the electronics in your RV from an electrical surge,like a surge protector on your home computer it does the same thing.Some EMSs connect directly to power pedestal at campsite and some are hardwired like mine,they also provide info as how many amps are going thru each leg on a 50amp or single leg for 30 amp.
I’m sure someone will up me on the explanation on more info but I’ve plum run out of gas....lol

Thank you for the update on the term EMS. I do use a 50 amp surge protector on my rig. I'd never heard it referred to as an EMS.

The 50 amp surge protector is not a EMS EMS = Electrical Management System.It is a lot more than a surge protector.

As stated, it protects the electric/electronic component's in the camper from many varying issues such as low voltage/high voltage/lost neutral/reverse polarity/missing ground etc.
I camped at a friends place and was hooked up via 200 foot of cheap a-- extension cord. The unit protected my camper from the low voltage that was delivered to the camper by cutting it off.

I did the same thing as Jet334, I need to take a look at it and make sure its not moved somewhere it shouldn't be. The #6 wire was so stiff, I don't think it can move around. Where are you at WeBeFulltime?
