Williamsburg, VA
Has anyone stayed in Williamsburg, VA like at Colonial Williamsburg KOA? Planning trip this summer to take kids to Colonial Williamsburg and to Bush Gardens, looks like nice camp ground looking for input.

Broome101, you will really enjoy Williamsburg! We stayed at the Colonial KOA this past April. Sites were quite close together and a little difficult to maneuver into/out of. Didn't use the bath house or laundry, and the pool was still closed. Folks working in the office/store area were very friendly and helpful. It was rather expensive for what you get; I think we paid $48.95 a day ! It was nice being near Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown, though. When we go back, we'll try a different campground. If/when you go, head down the road to Jamestown. On the left side is a tiny restaurant called Jamestown Pies. The BEST freshly made pizzas and pecan pies. Happy trails!

Thanks CanDO we have made reservations at Colonial KOA. Did you stay in one of the premium sites with 50Amp service?

Broome101, yes, we stayed in a premium pull-through. When you pull out, there are several trees quite close to the road. It was quite exciting, actually. 'Course I wasn't the one driving! Enjoy your trip.

We live pretty close to Williamsburg, VA. It's our favorite place for a weekend getaway. Those KOA sites are so so close. We stay at a very nice, quiet small park called American Heritage. They have lots of pull through sites and the people there are great!

so what you are saying is you would think I need to cancel KOA and stay at American Heritage? My rig is about 39' long with 4 slides staying a week I don't want to have to worry about not opening awnings etc.

Where you stay is your choice. Most of the KOAs that I have stayed in have back to back parking so your neighbor is quite close. You will have plenty of room to open the slides and awning. We just thought American Heritage Campgrounds was much nicer and a bit cheaper. The sites are all pull thru's and there is space between each camper. Look at my signature picture. It was taken at American Heritage. We have a 3475 that is 37ft long and I was able topark the truck in front out of the roadway. There are a few trees that you have to look out for. Especially if you have satellite TV on the roof. Also there is a nice resturant on the corner at rt 60.

Thanks, what about for kids? Most time will be spent two days at Bush Gardens and water park and two days at Colonial Williamsburg, 1 day to chill out. Which one is better for kids 13 & 8? I see where you guys say it's tight what about getting into spot and out of at KOA vs American Heritage. Don't want to have to worry about getting in and out of spots is one thing I hate, love large pull thrus nothing in the way.

We stayed at the American Heritage Campground during Labor Day weekend to visit Bush Gardens. The campground is nice with a salt water swimming pool. They don't have much of a game room for the kids and they have clean bathrooms. I have a 37" trailer with four slides and I had no problems with my site. Check out this link with reviews of the campground: http://www.rvparkreviews.net/Virginia.html#Williamsburg

I don't remember the swimming pool having salt water either. Never heard of that! The pool was clean though!

Well I can say, Ken, Bob and Sheri were all correct loved American Heritage RV Resort in Williamsburg. Quiet close to everything easy access to I64 which everything was off of. Spaces were big, we were in space 82 nice and wide. They are in process of install cable to all the rows, only three of them done at this time. It's really a satellite feed from there office I guess but has about 60 channel;s you can get. Installing new playground while we were there. Nice park would go again. Meet some nice folks from Maryland there that stayed at KOA last year and said this was much better park as far as space etc.
