2000 watt genny maybe
Ok, I want a 3100 watt but at 70 with a back broken in 1968 about 100# is too much to handle.
I have a 50amp to 30 cord bought (never used) for emergencies. Using that to a 30 to 15 dog bone would plug into a 2000 watt Champion inverter genny. That SOUNDS LIKE it should charge the batteries and kkep them charged and not much else, but would be enough. I can handle that 50# weight. SHOULD work on cold nights to keep the furnace running.
Forget the $1000 Honda in favor of the $500 Champion.
Will it work or will there be potential problems?
Of course 2000 watts should power a battery charger not sure I want to go that way.

It will definitely keep your batteries charged or run your microwave or coffee pot. May not do 2 at the same time depending on how much your converter is drawing.

Better news than hoped for. I'll be looking for a small electric heater with 750 draw for the basement to run along with the batteries being charged. I'll feel better doing that than winterizing several times next winter.

I have the honda and am glad i bought it but the champion will do the same thing. If you are planning on using the generator a lot then the honda will certainly last longer but the champion will still last a lot of years and do what you want it to do. 2,000 watts is 2,000 watts no matter whose generator you choose. I used my generator in Quartzsite this past January and there were mostly 2,000 watt generators there used to charge there batteries as we were all dry camping and they worked great.

John,
Although sold as a 2000 watt genny the specs probably show it as 1700 or 1800 watts. Honda is no different.

A few sites list them as 1700 or 1800. They all will take a very short 2000 surge but running is at the lesser number. Wish I could handle 100# for a bigger model, but age has taken a toll.

I have 2 Honda 2000s that are easier to handle than the bigger genny. Typically only use 1 at a time unless I need to run an A/C.

I understand your primary interest is charging batteries, a 2000 series generator will do that with power to spare.
FYI, several of the larger microwave ovens need more power than a typical 2000 series (1600-1700 watt) generator can supply. If you turn off everything else, including the 120vac-12vdc converter that charges your batteries, you may be able to run the microwave. The microwave in our 3160 would not run reliably on a single Honda 2000.
When using your generator, be sure to run your water heater and refrigerator off of propane (set frig to gas, not auto).

A couple of thoughts. First the Honda eu2000i has been replaced with a 2200i, same size, same weight, same price.
I look at what something costs by, what I pay for it, and what I sell it for. While a Honda will cost more upfront, when I sell my pair, I'll then see what my actual cost was. The market for a used Honda is probably better than a used other brand.
Yep, 3 back surgerys and open heart surgery in Dec. Why I went with a pair of red ones.
Just thinking?
