Get a 1"X4" board and mount that first then mount the spring clips to taht. I would use bolts with nuts and drill all the way thru the wall then put a fender washer on the backside. It's a little more trouble that way but it will assure you that you have plenty holding it up and it will stiffen the wall a bit. It will also give you a sturdy mounting point for other stuff....
