Very Loud Water Pump
Went out to electric only site meaning we had to use onboard water storage for first time. When the pump ran it sounded like someone was in the basement trying to jack hammer their way into the bathroom. We opened the faucets in both bath and kitchen along with shower for at least five minutes to bleed any air out of the system. The “Tank Fill” valve was in the “fill tank” or down position. The fresh water tank showed full and the pump would run for a period and then shut off suggesting the line had been pressurized successfully. Water heater and winterize are both set to Off. I simply cannot believe the pump is supposed to be this loud. Any ideas are appreciated.

When using the pump, the tank fill switch must be in the normal position, not in the fill position. The pump will run when you open a faucet, but should not run otherwise.

To answer your question, yes the OEM pumps are very loud. We've replaced the pump and put some noise reduction tubing in and foam under the pump, but all that just reduced the noise. It didn't eliminate it.

Very good description of the noise. Our 2006 has been that way since new. We have tried sound deadening material and rerouting some pipes, but it's still pretty noisy. Next srep will be a new pump, but we're kinda getting used to it now. Besides, tackling that plumber's nightmare around the pump is not on my list of fun things to do.

Will try tank fill in normal position. Sounds like, from discussion, the pump is fairly loud anyway. Ours can be heard two camp sites away (~100ft). Going to look into alternative. Thanks for the responses!

Once you've got your plumbing figured out and are certain your pump is loud, there's a couple of things you can do. Our Monty came with the quietest pump there is for the money (Shurflow Revolution) unless you want to put out more than a couple hundred bucks. It did annoy me though as it's right under the floor in the short hallway in front of our bedroom and our bathroom. There's a kit from Shurflow that consists of a couple of lengths of hose that you install making loops on the intake and output sides of the pump. This and putting an additional rubber pad under the pump did the trick. A year later we must have had some debris get into the pump and it quit while on the road. I picked up a more expensive pump from a local RV dealer, hooked it up and it was louder than the Revolution was on day one! Went back to another Revolution (and also was able to unclog the old one) and won't change again.

Walt, the Shurflow pump & "pump silencing kit" ( http://shurflo.com/rv-products/rv-ac...-silencing-kit ) sound like the way to go. I'll post my findings once I've completed.

Have those on mine and foam under the pump and it's still noisy just not as bad.

The pumps come in three models: noisy, really noisy, and what-the-hell-is-that!

Mine's pretty loud, too. It's the main reason we try not to boondock. Not jackhammer loud, but its definitely noticeable. Then being in a campground with other trailer's that have loud pumps and we just deal with it.
It's ironic though, when you are around tenter's that don't have water pressure like in our trailers, as long as they know what it is and it's not during quiet times, they deal with it, too, then they mostly envy the rest of the conveniences we have. Inviting them over to watch some TV shows or sports doesn't help either.

THANK YOU FOR THIS POST!!! I went to the hardware store and bought 2 short 1/2" nipples and 2 18" stainless 1/2" X 1/2" hoses. Put them on the pump in and out, and mounted the pump on a cut piece of a foam shop mat. Slid some pipe insulation up the pipes going up to the shower I assume. It isn't silent but MUCH quieter. And for what it's worth our 2016 has a flo-jet pump.

I have had some success by replacing my OEM pump with the Sure-Flo VSR variable speed pump, and using the foam pipe insulation where I could reach. The pump speed moderates to flow requirements and seems to be a bit more quiet.

If your unit is plumed for a washer/dryer and you have not installed one, bleed those lines too. Air in those lines will make the pump "hammer" Bill

I had the same experience on my new Monty and just installed a new Shureflow revolution ($60). I did the install on an additional rubber pad to further isolate vibrations and used 1/2" flexible lines to tie to PEX plumbing, all in all I probably spend around $80 or so. I'm planning to use the flo-jet (a very appropriate name given the noise) as a transfer pump while boondocking.

So our new 3950BR has the loudest water pump I have ever heard. I laughed out loud to the post above that said, "The pumps come in three models: noisy, really noisy, and what-the-hell-is-that!" That's what my wife said so I guess we have model #3.
I will try the above recommendations but if anyone wants to chime in on a fix they made that worked well not already mentioned I am opening up the old thread here.

Jeff, Our 2017 3950BR we picked up in Aug. was mode l#3. During our PDI, I pointed it out to the tech. He isolated it underneath the pump with rubber...then it was #2.5. He added styrofoam tubes to the shower lines as they were vibrating with the pump...then #2. He then added additional flexible hose to the pump....now < model #1!.

after much testing I found it was not the pump so much as the fact that it setup a vibration in the water itself that would rattle any loose PEX pipe. So I made sure all of my PEX was securely tied down and now It's quiet enough to not wake up someone when water is used at night. At least the water hammering is gone.

Amazingly enough, when the bathroom door is closed and when we did the walk through, it sounded OK, slightly loud but not a deal breaker. Standing in bathroom first time was like "What the heck was that #3 in noise.
I could make dealer fix it but likely I will and get it better than he would and save me the drive and frustration when not done like I would.

Could sound deadening on the basement floor be an option of sound absorbing down there?

Mine was also really loud. I did three things;
1. Installed a water pump silencing kit
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
2. Isolated the pump by putting a rubber mat under it
3. Probably the biggest help was making sure the PEX lines did not touch each other and were fastened down securely.
It is still louder than my previous unit, but tolerable.
