Odd, I always use the hose that comes with the cheapest DEF from Walmart and don't have a leak problem. I do have to be very careful when twisting it on though and make sure it seals properly. I actually added a 2 1/2 gallon jug today.

Blue Def and that from Ford is known to be made in the US . Not sure I want imported or old stock as it does expire. Blue Def at NAPA is only 12.50. For the little used the little extra is fine with me.

Flying J / Pilot the only locations that have it on the pump? My 2017 Ram has 7000 miles total/w/700 towing - just added the first 2 1/2 G and it was not quite full

The chemical components of DEF are the same for every manufacturer...whether less than $8 at Walmart or twice that at an auto parts store.

DEF usage is based on MPG, so you'll use a bit more towing for that reason. There is a chart on the Walmart DEF container that shows amount of DEF used based on MPG. Using 9 MPG, miles from one gallon of DEF would be:
At 1% 900 miles.
At 2% 450 miles.
At 3% 300 miles.

Wally World puts lots of information on their DEF containers, don't know if it is required by the Feds or not. Here are a few examples...Batch #, date produced, composition of ingredients ....water 67.5% and Urea 32.5%, and a DEF consumption chart. This chart shows how many miles you get out of a gallon of DEF based on MPG and consumption rate of DEF, (1%, 2% or 3%).

FTI on the RAM.
When the gauge starts to drop from 100% you are really down about half in the tank.
The gauge doesn't start to read until the wick gets exposed to air and the wick is just at the half way mark in the tank. The gauge is not a float in the tank.
I filled my tank up to overflowing and it took me around 2500 miles mostly towing to get it to start to drop.

And more importantly remember there si a shelf life of about 1 year for DEF. I was on a trip from Florida to Michigan and got low. Looked at the spare bottle I had and it was over 1 1/2 years old. In Florida heat in rear of truck under a black cover. Threw it away and now wait until I'm at 1/4 tank then add 2 1/2 gallons. In my Ram not towing I get at least 1 year until I need to refil again. Like others have said towing, even a 8x12 covered 2 axle utility trailer usage is much higher let alone my 5er.

Just an FYI: Just picked up two 2 1/2 Gal containers of Wally World DEF and guess what?
Both are labeled "Made in USA"

Yet another reason to love my7.3L Super Duty. I don't use the stuff.
Can't they just blend it in with the fuel?

The use of DEF works with the catalyst to reduce NOX emmisions, and with that process, they can lean out the fuel which gives you better fuel mileage. The little bit of expense for the DEF is more than returned in better mileage. I also like not puking black smoke out the exhaust, which is just raw fuel being wasted.

Yes you more than makeup for the cost of the DEF in fuel mileage and more power. Remember when the 08 trucks got 13 MPG and now they 20.
