Finally cleaned the roof
We got our Big Sky early in 2013. Later that year we went to the National Rally. At the rally I attended 95% of the seminars. One seminar dealt with the rubber roof maintenance. Back then I was 400+ lbs. and was leery about climbing all over the roof even though 3 Keystone Reps. said it would be OK. This past weekend we camped at a state park and caught a limb on one of the Fan-Tastic vent covers and destroyed it. So, today I got the nerve to climb up to survey the damage and I figured while I'm up there I may as well clean it. I figured it would be OK since I'm now under 340lbs. Now, my roof is white again. Life is good !

Terry I am glad you were able to access your roof to do repair and maintenance work. Congratulations on getting down to 340. I am always leery of my ladder as I have never been on a RV ladder that really felt solid. I pressure washed my Arctic Fox roof with a semi low pressure washer before I sold it. It was amazing how much whiter it looked afterwards. I have read that there is some protectors available for the rubber roofs, I have not used it on my new unit.

Terry, Great job on the clean roof and the weight loss. Two great things to be happy about.

I don't trust that rear ladder and always prop my portable ladder against it to climb on the roof.

I thought I read the ladder is only certified at 300 lb.????? Might want to check this out before you try it again. Like others say, the ladder always seems a bit weak when I climb it.

The ladder can be scary...I have replaced a couple of the black step ends as they were cracked.....at 270 I climb it with a death grip and a prayer.....I am guessing the step will break before the ladder pulls off the rig itself.....that's my theory but we only climb it when we feel it necessary.....

I used to climb my ladder all the time but I only weigh 165. Then one day I missed a warning sign not to enter a steep dip in the road and when my low hanging ladder got bent/broken off at the bottom. I have not needed to get on my roof. Funny how that works.
After I fix it I'll have to get up there and wash my roof. It has been a while.

We do not go on the roof. Helen will if needed. We have the Montana including the roof washed twice a year.

Congratulations on your weight loss. I am also in the "full figured" club. I do get on the roof, but over the side with a short extension ladder. I leave the coach ladder for the lighter individuals.

Hey PatnRich - the full figured club - I like that - got the feeling many (most) of us at this age fit that group. I am working on it, but congrats to Samiterry - it ain't easy!
RE roof washing, it is amazing how white the roof looks after you wash it and how many people don't. I washed the roof on our SOB this spring (used Simple Green I think) and we traded it about a month after that. The dealer asked if we had the roof replaced because it was so white. Maybe he was trying to butter me up for the deal on the Montana, but still felt good! It is suprising how much dirt collects in a season. I have a paint roller extension (extends 12 foot) and a mop like head with a terry cloth cover. Seems to work great and I can reach without having to go out to the edges. Have not done the Montana yet, maybe later this fall. Sure makes 'em look nice though!
Safe climbing y'all
Steve

I replaced all the screws that attach the ladder to the back cap with one size bigger SS screws and made sure all the step screws were tight(some were not)now I feel better getting my 220lbs up there and also I use a low pressure power washer(1700 P.S.I.) ELECTRIC for 8 years now and it works great with no damage and I'm done in 20 min no more scrubbing and chemicals for me

That danged ladder on the back is for "emergency" use only in my book! I weigh 205 and it scares me to use it. I simply use the top of that ladder to brace my "real" ladder when I need to get up there.

Whose afraid of that latter it's no problem for my wash crew I just stand there and watch them climb it and wash the roof. DW will not allow me on the roof.
