ABS for trailers?
Looks like Lippert developed an anti lock brake system for trailers with electric drum brakes. Seems to me this would be just as if not more important for trailers equipped hydraulic disc brakes since those have even more stopping power abilities and hence could lock up even more easily at an inopportune time. For now I always back off the gain on the trailer brake controller somewhat during inclimate weather conditions.
Thoughts / comments / concerns anyone? What say you....

Remember before RVs started getting all the current bells and whistles that perhaps the most technical thing to do setting up was light the pilot lite on the water heater with a long match?? All funning aside ... like Lee, I would think this feature would be more important relating to disk brakes. I've seldom been able to lock any electric drum brake up at anywhere near road speed, but I sure enough have with my disk brakes with the gain set too high.

I agree about the disc brakes. But even drum brakes, that may not lock up on dry pavement, can lock up on roads slick with water, road grime, and of course ice. And locked trailer brakes will definitely lead to the trailer trying to pass you due to less traction.

I think it's a great idea! It should be standard even on drum brakes.

For the life of me, I don't know why disc brakes and ABS are not standard on every trailer out on the road. Then again new Toyota Tacoma's are still coming with rear drum brakes

I'm confident that engineers somewhere are looking at coming out with a package for Disc brakes. I have to wonder whether or not the engineers are having fits trying to figure out how to off-set that fraction of a second delay we have between pressing on the brake pedal and the electric hydraulic actuator spinning up to 1600 psi for the brakes or if it is something else in the modules needed to pulse those brakes to keep from skidding. I'm sure they'll figure it out -- there is money to be made!!

From what I've seen a lot don't want to spend money on much, unless they get a new 80000$ truck. Then it's money well spent.

They have been standard equipment on semi trailers for many years. Took me a while to learn to trust them (41 year driver) but now I love them! Only reason they are not standard equipment on RV trailers is money. Seems all it would take is some wheel sensors and an electronic module to control individual brakes. Everything else is there.
Wheel sensors could be a glue on magnet. Aftermarket possibilities?
Remember when you could add cruise control to an older vehicle by gluing magnets to the driveshaft? I did a couple of mine. Same principal.

Disc brake install going on next month. If Lippert comes up with a ABS system for hydraulic actuated systems, I'm at least gonna be interested for sure. Flat spotted numerous trailer tires on aluminum semi tankers some 35+ years ago while uploaded. We'll see how technology progresses in the years ahead. In the mean time I figure gain control settings on our brake controllers are our friends during inclimate weather. Really appreciate everyone's thoughts on this
