Oil for 6.7 Ford Diesel
I have a 2015 Ford F350 6.7 Crew Cab Diesel SRB. I have been running Motorcraft 10-30W oil for Diesels. I am wondering if I should be using 15-40 because of towing a 15000lb 5th wheel. Just curious what other Ford owners are using in their vehicles?

I’ve been using 10w30 in my 15 since new. That’s what ford calls for.

Thats interesting. I use 15w40 Rotella. I didnt think any diesel this side of running in the arctic would run that light weight oil.

I would stay with what you've been using as I see no need to change. I happen to use Rotella T6 synthetic in my 2012 6.7 F350.

I use Rotella T6 and have since the first oil change. It is 5W40 and my owners manual is very clear, use 5W40 for severe/heavyduty usage, and it is cited on the oil cap under the hood as well. I consider pulling a 40 foot Montana to qualify as that type usage.

Just use what Ford calls for. I only run Motorcraft oil in all my Ford cars and i have 5 of them. LOL
If the manual calls for 10/40 than use that. Ford has paid engineers millions to figure this out. Going to a higher viscosity oil puts a strain on the oil pump and that's not good. Just stick with what Ford recommends and you will be golden.

Use what Ford calls for. I would use synthetic. It is better oil, no question and it will protect your turbo better.

I would dig through the owners manual to see what Ford recommends for severe duty. I would use synthetic.

The Ford Motorcraft Diesel blend has rtun in mine for 115K miles. If we pull in the desert, I have used the 15W-40 but that's only happened a couple times. Since I still have the Ford ESP to 136K, I don't want to give them any chance to drny a claim since it is a Job 1 early build truck wuth problematical valve stems in the RH head

I always ran the Rotella T6 full synthetic in my 08 Duramax, 12 Powerstroke 6.7, and now have the Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme full synthetic in my 17 Powerstroke 6.7, as initially Ford had not approved the Rotella T6, but now it is approved. I have enough of the Valvoline left for my next oil change or 2, so I will have to decide which of the 2 I stick with after that. Either way, I’ve always gone full synthetic.

An engines survivability from severe duty is more dependent on how often you change your oil than on what brand, type, weight, the owners manual has your answer. Given the 100,000 mile warranty's best to do what they recommend as not to give them an excuse to deny a claim.

I use Rotella T6 5W40 synthetic. That is what is called for when you are towing or using biodiesel.

Ford doesn't mention it specifically by name. However, if you look in the owner's manual, it lists the specifications for the oil. On the back of the oil container there is a list of the specifications the oil complies with.

I use Amsoil in all of my vehicles. My 2000 Navigator had 350000 miles on it when we sold it still see it around town.

Oil does much much more than keeping two prices of medical from rubbing together. In the good old days when Diesel engines put out 160 HP. almost any oil was OK. Today the oil helps control pollution and dozens more. Ford just changed their oil specifications and made them much more stringent about a couple years ago. You do not wont to have an engine failure and been using the wrong Ford specified. In that very unlikely event Ford can say SORRY but we will sell you a new engine.

I'm on my 7th diesel vehicle, 2015 F350 SuperDuty. I have owned Oldsmobile (back in the day) and several GM products as well that all had diesel engines. Here in San Antonio we have a facility called SWRI (Southwest Research Institute) that was started by oilman Tom Slick almost 100 years ago. They have a medical part, and a non-medical part. The non-medical part does everything from testing tires up to and including stuff that goes on the space shuttle and military products. I have a good friend who ran the fuel testing lab for almost 35 years. They have ways to put over 300K miles plus on a diesel engine in a very short period of time. He recommended Rotella to me until Royal Purple came out. I run Royal Purple (pure synthetics) in all my vehicles including the trannys. So far so good.

I posted a comment earlier on this thread. An easy question was asked and surprised it generated so many comments. Interesting to read, another reason I really like this forum. Ford manual for the 6.7 regardless of year is very concise. Tells you what viscosity oil to use under what conditions. My thought, your truck, do whatever you want. I follow my owners manual, done that with 4 diesel Fords, and never had an issue because of the brand oil I use, even my infamous 6.0. I do pay attention to specs and viscosity. Have to say, 2007dura had a wow! super great post above.
