RV salesman and tow capacity
I know there has been tons of comments on the forum about different RV salesmen letting folks purchase heavy trailers or fivers when they don't have the trucks to pull them. I have a good friend that purchased a new TT after the sales staff told him his Tahoe could handle it because he had the "big V-8" engine. Yesterday we went to Lazydays RV (Tampa FL) to look at a new 3725RL. This was the start of our search which we anticipated would take several months. They had the exact one with the options we wanted and IMHO an unbelievable trade price, so we pick it up next Tuesday. Then my salesman asked to see my truck. We went out and he checked my door sticker and wrote down some information. He explained that Lazydays required him to fill out a form which broke down all the weights for my truck and the fiver I was purchasing. I watched him fill out the form and believe me it had everything on my weights. The bottom line was if you were too close on the weight you could either have your TV modified, change to another TV, or purchase another lighter fiver. He claimed that he would not let me purchase the 3725RL and pull it away if my truck was not rated for it. So far, I am very impressed with this professional dealership.

Congrats on the upgrade, now that you have a new rig to show off, you should consider bringing it down to the Mid-Atlantic rally at the end of July in Tennessee and let everyone OOOOOHH and AAAAAHH over it!! Ha, beat Rondo to it!!

Congrats folks, and the best part is you only have a week of waiting for your new arrival. Also good to hear of an rv dealer at least making their customers aware of towing capacities. Keep us posted with pics!!!

Not by much Bingo! If I had gotten up just a little earlier you wouldn't have! Since Bingo put a plug in for the Mid-Atlantic Rally, I guess I should follow up with one for the Central Plains Regional Rally (CPRR) the is just before Bingo's. Heck you can come to ours and enjoy some Nebraska hospitality and then make a two day track from Nebraska to Bingo's in Tennessee and enjoy his also. Come on out to Nebraska and "Enjoy the Good Life"!
By the way, congrats on the new rig! Nice unit you're getting there!

Congrats on your new Monty. And I am pleased to know there ARE some RV dealers who care about safety for you, and others, on the highway.
My neighber visited me the other day with a big smile on his face. He told me he just bought a new 38' fiver (never had one before) and wanted to know what hitch he should buy. He has a 3/4 ton Chevrolet with a big V-8 gas engine. His dealer told him "that truck can haul most anything". I don't know all the specs but I suspect he's going to be maxed out. I told him there are too many choices and he needs to talk to someone who knows more than I do. My 1 ton diesel is comfortable with my trailer and hitch. His trailer is longer and maybe heavier so I told him to buy a quailty hitch. And if it's used be sure it's in GOOD condition.

Congrats on the new rig. We have been wintering here in St Petersburg for 10 years and know lots of folks who have purchased from Lazy Days. Many have been less than happy with maintenance/warranty service and long wait times. Very busy dealership. Lazy Days has a campground right there and I would recommend you stay there for a day or two until completely satisfied with every aspect of your new fiver.

Glad to see that at least one dealership is putting the proper emphasis on weights!

I agree with what you are saying. They have 100 camp spots reserved now for change-over customers. Your new fiver and your old one are positioned on one large campsite and they want you to switch over and stay for 2 or 3 days. During that time they will send a tech out to make any adjustments. They have already warned us that this is their busy season so I am prepared to have some delays. I will follow up next week after delivery. I hope I am still as impressed with them next week as I am this week.

Great testimonial! While it's glad to hear that a dealer tried to do the right thing, you'd wish all dealers did this because it's the safe thing to do and not have to be told by someone else.

We already have a May/June trip planned for the Seattle area. Will have to keep those Rally dates in mind. Heck if diesel goes below $2.50 a gallon I will hit all the planned Rally's!

Congratulations. We are glad you got a good deal on a unit that had everything you wanted. On top of that, our hat is off to the dealer rep who actually looked to see that you had a TV that could pull the unit safely.

We bought both our Montana's at Lazydays. We have been to various CW's in a 100 mile radius, nothing compares to them. The only issue I have is service, they are so busy, everyone is spread thin. They are so nice during the sale and introducing everyone, but when it comes time for service and what type of work you need, it can be frustrating.
They also came out to inspect the truck and said they wouldn't sell a unit if your TV couldn't handle it.
All and all, I still would buy from them again.
Congrats and enjoy,
Scott

I agree about Lazy Days prices (great) and their service less than stellar), but question the TV ability. When completing the sale of our SOB they tried to tell us our TV wouldn't handle it and we would have to sign a release. So I had to correct them, that their numbers were totally wrong for our TV, don't know if they used a 1500 or 2500, but they sure didn't use a 3500 Dually. Once corrected we didn't have to sign their waiver.
So it looks like if they want to make a sale bad enough, they'll sell regardless of what you have for a TV as long as you'll sign their waiver.

That is probably how they still currently handle the whole weight situation. Since my numbers (weights) came out good on the work sheet he had to fill out we never really got to that point. If we would have they most likely would have added "unless you sign a waiver" to the statement.

Anyone with an ounce of knowledge would have looked at the numbers and realized something was wrong. As I said, don't know what he looked at, but the numbers weren't even close for a Dually, even if it was an older one.
Anyway we left happy and have put close to 20K on it in just under 2 years.
BTW, the money we saved buying from them allowed us to include the Full Body Paint that we love.

Here's a quick article on Paul Evert RV in Fresno - a really steep judgement against them for badmouthing their competition. I wonder if they learned their lesson?

Enjoy the new rig. RV Station did the same with me. Wanted to confirm my TV before completing the sale. Good to know some honest dealers.

JandC... first, a dealer concerned about weight ratings and now you're dreaming about $2.50 diesel prices? WAKE UP AND STOP DREAMING! You're scaring me, it'll be a nightmare soon.
If diesel gets that low again, I'm towing to the East coast, just cuz.
