Calling DFW MOFs
Need some advice from those in the DFW area - or those who may have passed though. We are looking for a local resource to give us some "Montana lessons". We bought our 2011 3750FL used, and had it moved to TX, where the wife is living in it. I will return to the US soon and we will have a small window before we head out.
Buying a used rig, we didn't get the pre-delivery walk around. The wife has figured many things out and I have seen a little on my visits home - but we still have questions - especially when we go mobile. The question, is the Montana so unique that we will need to get a Montana dealer to come out, or are most of the features generic enough that any fifth wheel service guy could help?
We are planning on contacting local Montana dealer, but interested in opinions.
Thanks

When it comes to towing, all fifth wheels (5ers) are pretty much alike. There might be some subtle differences across brands but they would be subtle enough within all models of Montana, too.
For example, does the front cap have a mirror to help backup the truck to the RV's pin? Or will you have to rubberneck to hitch up?
It would also help to know your experience. Have you towed before? What have you towed (probably not a fiver)? On the internet, there is a lot of textual information on backing up fifth wheels; you might even try Youtube. But NOTHING replaces practicing. The fiver will react different than a bumper tow but it's all about learning how to make the correct adjustments (go slow and don't get intimidated by any audience that might form up). Learn the term "tail swing" and watch the height too (low branches, overhangs, etc).
Whatever you end up doing, just remember not to leave the trailer backed up from a turn. You must drive straight forward then back a few feet in a straight pattern. Your tires, wheels and suspension will love your for it!
There is plenty of experience in the membership and there is no such thing as a dumb question from anyone, so ask any question you have. The hardest part of questions is finding the right topic to put it under, but admins have been known to correct this for you. The important part is to ASK ANYTHING!
The MOC holds rallies in different parts of the country throughout the year. I forget which one, but sometimes there may be a driving or backing featured class. Hopefully someone can provide more detail.
LOL - from your topic title, I now realize you didn't mean Daughters of Foreign Wars, but I couldn't figure out MOFs.

I believe you need to have your wife register on the MOC and start firing questions at the members. Probably more knowledge here and at a way better price. We have the same model and year rig and I know there are other 3750 owners here who can probably answer any question that arises.

Both Bingo and Art are correct. There isn't that much unusual about hooking up or towing a Montana and the folks here are always ready and willing to help with any question. Don't worry about feeling embarrassed. All of us were new once and we all have had folks help us with questions that seemed a little elementary. That's what the forum is for.

We live in the Garland area, just off of the George Bush tollway. I would be glad to help and if interested drop me a private note and we can exchange phone numbers.

Thanks all. We have posted many questions and will post many more. The benefits of the internet and being half a world away! Unfortunately, you don't always know what you don't know - so it's hard to then ask a question. As an example, wife recently discovered a t-handle on the outside under a forward slide on street side. From this forum, I think it may be the galley tank handle, but only guessing. Just an example of the little things we are not aware of.
Kyle and Bev - thank you so much - we sent you an email.
Again thanks and hope to meet you all at some point!

You are correct the handle not in the convenience center is the drain for the galley tank.

The smartest thing you could do is join this forum. I don't think there is any question you could ask about your Monty that couldn't be answered here. Keep the questions coming, and you'll get answers. Good luck on your future travels.

Welcome! I am sure someone here can help you. I bought a new 3750FL and got the dealer walk around. Not much unique about them. Watch out for the lounge slides! I bought some swim noodles and placed on the corners, helps soften the blow when I walk into them.
