Pin box/frame welds
Whe purchased a new 2012 Montana Mountaineer this past summer and have since heard alot of rumbling about the frame welds by the pin box seperarting. Is this still an issue as it was with earlier models?
I am concerned as have installed 4 large 6v batteries, invertors and etc up front.

Broken welds have historically been on older and much heavier units (Montanas). I have never heard of a frame problem on a Mountaineer (not to say it hasn't happened). I wouldn't worry about frame problems. Now tires are a different matter

If you have problems with your front closet walls not aligning or on the outside the seams are separating then you have an issue. In your case it's unlikely, but anything is possible.

If your tires have the words "Made in China", there have been some documented failures on the forum. How many undocumented failures is the unknown factor. Many of us have upgraded the "Made in China" tires on the heavier rigs.

We had a 2010 Montana Mountaineer and the frame was the same for both the regular Montana and the Mountaineer Edition. The Mountaineers were about 2K lbs. lighter and this gives you a big advantage with the frame. We had no issues with the frame and enjoyed our Mountaineer, we just moved on to a bigger rig. Our Mountaineer came with the China Bombs and after having read on the MOC of all the problems we then experienced a blow-out in Maine on I95. We bought a replacement spare and put original spare on the trailer. When we got back in TN we put on four G614 tires and put the China Bombs in a dark and dry shed at the farm. Since there is no market for used Marathons we may some day use them to drag down cattle manure in the pastures. Enjoy your new 5'er and safe travels.

Checked the trailer today and yes I have the "China Bombs" size 235 80R16. What tires do you all recommend, I am going to replace mine even tho they only have about 2K miles on them.
