What's going on with diesel prices?
I went out to the farm earlier this week and when I returned to Omaha the price of diesel had jumped $.22-$.30 a gallon! Now that is definately a jump! Anyone else out there experience this same deal?

If you’re on the west coast it probably the refineries that are off line – Fire in one in CA. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A fire at one of the nation's largest oil refineries helped push West Coast gas prices close to $4 a gallon Thursday, as the same federal team that investigated the Gulf Coast spill waited to inspect the unit that was knocked out by the blaze.

Also something going on at another refinery or pipeline over by Illinois or Michigan ... they claim we have such low inventories that the price can skyrocket over night ... yeah and I have some ocean front property here in Kansas I need to part with .............. Also tropical storm Ernesto is stirring it up as well.

Around here it makes no sense. Flying J is 20˘ higher than here in Council Grove and we're normally the highest around. Last night on the evening news, during the story about the refinery fire, a women was reporting from in front of a gas station that had regular and diesel the same. Not sure where that was.

A week ago this past Tuesday there was a $.51 difference between stations here in Davison and Corrunna-only 30 miles apart $3.35/$3.86. It was blamed on a burst pipeline in the Chicago market region.

That's the truth!! When I was Mayor here a number of people over the years wanted to know what our local gas tax was since we were always higher than everyone else. I always had to explain to them that when the nearest other choices were over 40 miles away they charged more because they could. We live by the golden rule anymore. Those who have the gold, always want more, and they make the rules.

GREED! In Chattanooga yesterday I saw a .10 difference between stations of same brand that were only about 1 mile apart. Neither were close to interstate highways. These particular stations are run by contractors.

Crude oil pipeline from Superior WI to Illinois busted two weeks ago, made a mess and that started the jump, but they repaired it last week but it is running at about 60% till they figure out if it will burst again.

As of today our diesel prices are up .25 to .30 from a recent low. Our gas prices went up the same. Funny thing though, diesel is still .05 to .10 cheaper than premium gas. That has not happened around here, central New York, in years.

I went down today and put 60 gal in aux tank. Price was 3.719 as I was leaving the price went up to 3.979. Wish I had filled the tank up, that would have been another 40 gal. Hope the price will come down by fall.

How about the one with both the cards and the lying excuses for why the price has to go up while they're reporting record profits to Wall Street.

Because they can. Have a good friend that has a BP station. He tells me that the BP distributor used to tell why, now they don't even tell why. Have some Exxon-Mobile stock and the dividend for a year wouldn't even fill the Dodge tank. All the time they give us lame excuses, they report record earnings and also complain that they can't build new refineries under the present regs, but they close down refineries. Sorry folks they aren't even giving you a jar of vaseline.

Really sad when you think that upon the discovery of petro and how it can be refined and used in the modern combustion engine we have all been handcuffed to the addiction!
When Rudolf Diesel designed his engine to run on peanut oil and Henry Ford design his engine to run on straight ethanol those were blessings, until the petro industrial complex took over! Today the car/ truck manufacturers tell you you cannot run on any of these products striaht up. Why? Because they are deep in the pockets of the petro complex. They have made sure that the materials they use to build their engines and fuel systems will not last long if the alternative fuels as we call them today were used and they void warranties if you are caught using them.
When you give it thought that we can produce enough bio-diesel and ethanol from bio-mass products without even touching the petro, you have to ask who is pulling the strings on the puppet?
Think about that fact that it costs about $0.85 cents to produce and ship ethanol to be mixed in regular petro gas because it has to be shipped in stainless steel vessels. How efficient it that?
How come the government still pays farmers to not produce crops (corn, etc.) yet we have a drought disaster in the Mid-west that effects the cost of your food and fuel (corn based ethanol)?
JMHO...
Sorry...just venting early in the morning.....
