Lake San Antonio
We are heading to Lake San Antonio next week for the Wildflower Triathalon....apparently along with 3K others!!! Our son and nephew are participating, so we are the designated cheering section. We are staying in the Monterey County Park campgrounds...although don't know exactly where. We find a campsite when we arrive. We were told we may be boondocking or have full hook ups....just depends on what is available when we arrive. Has anyone out there stayed in the area. Any suggestions about the area??? Any suggestions as to what particular campgrounds might be better than others??? Thanks in advance for all input. Ken and Marilyn

I think I would be prepared for some heavy duty boondocking! It's hard to imagine that with 30,000 others that you'd be fortunate to get a hookup site unless you "know someone".
It sure sounds like it's gonna be pretty around there and we wish the best of luck for the boys!

Oops....that 30,000 can't possibly be right. I would guess the number is more like 3K....but we'll see. Most, from what we have heard are just in the area for the day of their particular race. Our boys want to watch the 'pros' on Saturday...and they will participate on Sunday. From what we've been told, it's best to stay away from the college campgrounds...for obvious reasons. Been there done that kind of thing...and also lived through it with our own kids. Don't want to purposefully participate in college party antics!!

Marilyn, we spent Christmas there a couple of years ago (after you fed us that great lunch from Mary's Pizza!) with my sister and BIL. We had a nice big site right on the lake with full hookups on the north shore. The lake is wonderful in the winter. Very quiet and peaceful. They have an eagle watch tour during the winter months, too.
